What media will burn @ 8x w/ Sony drive.

Thread Starter
I have 8x ritek DVD+R media and 16x ritek DVD+R media... both burn at 4x on my 9300 (sony drive)

Anyways, what are some brands of resonably priced / good quality media that will burn @ 8x consistantly w/ this picky drive?
Check sonys site and see what media is compatible with that drive. To burn full speeds.

Hey, at least you guys can burn at 4 speed. Mine is so slow it takes the pi$$!

I reckon mine is buring at 1 speed as copying a DVD will often take around 1.5 hours (even though NERO states 4X speed)

When I DVD shrink, decode and then burn - the whole process can take around 3 hours. It's quite ridiculous and I think it's faulty. Even installing a game takes around an hour!!

I have sent Dell and email and they have just replied with a series of checks to run. God I hope this works.

Cheers

I flashed the Sony firmware over with the LITEON firmware for the SOSW-852S rev PCX3. I use Memorex media which are CMC-MAG E01s and I can't get 8x, but 6x is pretty quick on this media for a notebook drive. Notebook drives aren't as quick as desktop drives.

With the Memorex DVD-R media i am using i consistently get 4x but that is what the media code says for the drive. Did you check the media to see what the code says for your drive?

Copying DVD's takes a while. It is as simple as that. With CloneDVD and AnyDVD (superb program pair) it takes 30-45 minutes or so to rip the disk and only 15 or so to burn it. The program appreas to be working well so it must be just that the decode/rip process is slower???? I have not copied too many DVD's but it looks like that is just the way it is?

Anyone else have experience with ripping/burning DVD's?

Hazridi, My drive firmware came PDS3, did yours come something else? What did flashing to the liteon firmware do for you?

I had a strange "issue" with my Sony drive last week when I was burning a Verbatim DVD-R disk from my 9300. The disk is rated for 8X, but my system was indicating the burn taking place at 12X! I thought I was seeing things so I burned another disk and the same thing happened that time as well. I noticed that in addition to it saying 12X, it also indicated a much quicker mB/sec transfer rate (although I forgot to write down that number). The next time I burn some DVD's, I'll have to time how long it takes and compare that to a 8X (or 4X) burn...

I know the drive is spec'ed for 8X, so it really took me by suprise! BTW, this was seen when running Nero V6.x.

When I burn 4X DVD-R's the DW-D56A always starts burning at 2X and then after a short time it speeds up to 4X for the rest of the round. The 2X part is visible as a band next to the inner ring on the disk. Do you see this too, and how can you get the DW-D56A to burn at a constant 4X from beginning to end? The media I use is good quality and is rated at 2X or 4X.

Mine was sucking it didn’t recognize anything correctly and never burned a disk. I got a replacement drive sent and it was an NEC and works great. Thank God the Sony was a nightmare.
