Ordering from the US better?

Hi there, I live in the UK and have visited both alienware.com and alienware.co.uk websites. I am looking at buying a A51m 7700 laptop and have worked out that it would cost around £3000 from the UK, whilst about $4200 from the US...

So all in all that means ordering from the US makes the purchase significantly cheaper..

Also it seems there are many other options available from the US inluding the 6800go ultra..

Just like anyone to confirm what I am seeing is correct? And info from anyone in my situation who has ordered from the US to the UK.

Much appreciated, BKUK.

Hey,

I live in USA and UK. And yes, buying the machine from Alienware.com as opposed to Alienware.co.uk will be fiscally more sound - specifically due to the exchange rates - the dollar, thanks to G.W.B and Company, has been falling like a rock against GBP and the trend is still continues. And also because in the USA you are not charged Tax/VAT on Internet purchases.

However, you must have a USA Credit/Debit card to order the machine. Because, even if you pay with the Card Issued in UK on a USA website they will have to ship the item/s to the credit card address. If you do not have USA credit card with the corresponding USA address they will ship the machine to your UK address and Customs charge will kill any savings you might have had.

For me it worked out to about 2,000 quid for a machine that would normally cost me about 3,700 quid. But that’s because I have US Credit Cards and bank accounts.

I hope it helps.

Cheers.

I don't think US Alienware will ship to the UK. They will just tell you to order from the UK. So unless you know someone there who can forward it on to you, you don't have much choice.

I ordered from .com and shipped it to the UK.

Basically you need a US delivery point, a residence, collection agency etc etc, a place where they can ship the system to. I was lucky enough t get my system delivered at the same time I was in the US on business. It arrived by taxi, and started it's journey home to the UK in style....<read my review for details>

Message me if you need any help.

Fever,
I am curious, where in the UK do you live? My wife lived in Mildenhall Village for 4 years.

Coventry, West Midlands. Honestly, biggest hole in the ground he he he. But Birmingham is 20 minutes away [If you take Virgin train and not Silverlink] so its all good.

Thanks for all your replies

I'm not ordering just yet but when the time comes.. can the item be delivered to a 'collection agency' or some other location and then be shiped to the UK?

Depends, mine would have been if I hadn't made a trip to the US, but you would need to talk to someone to arrange.

I would say you get it for better and for cheaper from the USA but and its a big but (no pun intended) its a right pain like red was saying get it delivered to some where in the USA then shipped over here, the shipping might even balance out the savings from buying over there and will put more waiting time on your order. IMHO.
