I'd go with the Sager NP4880 since your from Cali, you can get it with no sales tax, and it's a great machine.

I configured my 4880 in my sig for 1830, inlcuding shipping. If you dropped down the HD to a 5400 rpm, you could have a great gaming machine for under 1800.

I've heard great things about both Sager 3880's and 4880's, as well as ChemUSA 2371v's

The Chembook mentioned earlier is a rebrand of the Asus Z71v, which is 6.7 pounds or so and would serve you well. There are a ton of reviews for it in the Asus Review section, or you can click on my signature for either of mine. For even lighter than that, Asus released the Z70v, which at about 6 pounds even, looks quite stylish, is made of carbon fiber, has a long battery life, a good screen and high quality sound. It's only disadvantage to the Sager models and the Z71v is that it's video card isn't as good, but if you aren't going to be playing all the latest games, you won't notice it. Best of luck! -Djembe_Rob

I second the Z70V...You can check it out at istnc.com or proportable.com

ok. i have been looking at the asus' and they look fricken sweet. but i am kinda like blah about getting the z71v or v70v. also i saw the w3 and i thought it was sick. does anyone have it i would like do get some reviews on it.
does the asus have like a photo gallery or anything good like that?
But of course! Either go to usa.asus.com, or check out one of the resellers, like www.istnc.com/store or www.proportable.com

and there are reviews on it here, as well as a lot of talk about it on the Notebook Review forums

so what do you think i should go for the z70v or the w3

plus is the asus tech support reliable?
W3v comes with a 3 year warranty, glossy screen, smaller, and you cannot customize it..
The Z70V comes with either 1 or 2 year standard warranty, matte screen, slightly larger, and you can customize it.

what about the samsung x50, its pretty stylish and very light

Personally, I love the style that sony has. If you're still interested in them, you can get a FS570 for $1549. http://www.clearanceclub.com/cgi-bin/quelle_showroom.cgi?sku=3261. It's the same product just with ATI graphics instead of NVidia. I think their factory reconditioned policy is that the product is either on clearance on sent back as a return. You may want to double check with them though.

http://www.proportable.com/detail.aspx?ID=77 what is this? and can anyone tell me how much memory is on the z70v?
It seems that it's a wireless hard drive that anyone on a network can use. I think you can configure how much ram you want to have in the asus notebooks just like most resellers.
