Personally, enjoy Vegas 6. This version can do everything I need and at 6.0b they fixed most of the bugs. Rock stable for me - no crashes whatsoever. If you gonna use it, I recommend turning off Media Manager initially - it's a resource hog and you only need it if you have a lot of clips, sound files, pictures that you want to organize and be able to quickly find. Without MM, Vegas is fast to load. One of the most important features of Vegas is its rich audio capabilities. In most cases you won't need any other app to do your video project from capture to output.
Premiere is ok. Two reasons to get it:
- if Premiere Elements came bundled with laptop then upgrade is cheaper
- nice integration (obviously) with other Adobe products (Photoshop, After Effects)
Also, it has a "classic" timeline/workflow.
I worked with Premiere Pro 1.0 (1.5 is now current). It was ok, although sometimes a little slow on real-time previews. Relatively stable - I had a couple of crashes only.
Pinnacle is now running promotions/discounts on their Studio. Have not used it myself. A nice feature they have is background rendering, i.e. it prerenders pieces while you do your editing. Can't comment on stability. Some people prefer Pinnacle Studio workflow.
You really have to try demo of all three to decide for yourself.
