Why Dell?

Now, I know that this might seem to be about as generic of a topic as it gets, but I belive that many people just ignorantly breeze right by other options because everyone else they know uses a Dell.

So my question is this: Why do you choose Dell over HP/Sony/Toshiba?

I've seen some killer laptops at Best Buy and have been able to customize, say, an HP, online just to my liking. And, more often than not, it's cheaper and arguably has a better-looking screen (especially at the WXGA resolution.)

So, to but it bluntly, "Why Dell?"

deals, concession coupons, and regular coupons.

and if i can turn it around on you,

why hp/sony/toshiba?

Why dell?

For me atleast, the pricing.

Simple as that

Two minutes to respond. Okay. That was fast.

So now we've established that coupons/special offers (especially $750 off/35% off) can make Dells notably cheaper.

But is that the only reason?

Yeah, basically

lower price with the same quality parts. it's not like dell is a no name company producing sub-par products

I have had a Compaq since the summer of 2001 and I have had it crash about 3 times. I had a new hard drive put in and it still crashed once more. I'm not saying that it is necessarily the computers fault but even I couldn't mess it up that many times.

I'm sure there are others out there who have had great luck with Compaq, but I'm not one of them and therefore, I won't be getting another Compaq or an HP since they are now under the same company umbrella.

Just my personal opinion though.

Also, all the people I have known who have Dells have been very pleased with their customer service.

why not

It's all about their old add campaign. "Dude, you're getting a Dell!!!"

Quality parts, excellent value, excellent service, inexpensive extended warranties, enough variety for most applications and most importantly, I personally have never had any problems with them.

Can you imagine how comfortable I am with a product that I've never had a problem with but have in home service for the next three years if I ever do? All that and I paid less for better specs than the vast majority of competing products, the real question is; why would anyone buy another brand?

Pentium M + GeForce 6800 + price tag under 2k = happy me

cheap.

Let's face it. Sony's are wayyyy tooo expensive. What a 'fing rip.

Toshiba is ugly. Let's admit it.

HP is ugly too.

I like Sager. Great machines.

I got the Dell because it was 750 off, free shipping, and a free printer. Shit. How could I not get a Dell?

I had owned a Toshiba and a Gateway laptops before, I didnt want either one of those again. Dell is so much easier to configure online and you know exactly what you are getting. And if the laptop has problems you can easily send it back and get your money back. I've never had problems with their customer service or tech support because I know exactly what to say to them.

dell's are cheap and they have a "perfect" laptop for just about anybody...their entire line is made up of various models to fit the person and their needs....gaming? desktop replacement? portability? you name it...thus, dell isn't in the "specialized" market which limits their customer base and who can or can not buy them (pricing wise)....

Because for computers are kinda like cars. Consumers tend to stiick with their brand, especially when it is well priced and made; Dell's are both.

Hmm. Those are some excellent points. Anything else?

Reputation, Reputation, Price, Reputation.

Dell doesn't have the largest notebook market share for nothing.

I think everyone mostly covered all the bases. I've had no problems with their support service. My D8300 had to be completely replaced after a year because something happened to it. I still don't know what it was but it wasn't working right so they sent me a new (read refurbished) one and it had some upgraded parts so it made me happy. Over a year later to currently, the hard drive died last fall but whatever Dell sent me a new one no questions asked. You'd think that'd be enough to not make me ever want Dell again but this past December I got a Pocket DJ and in February my 600m. I realize that sometimes machines have unsolvable issues whether it is cars, TVs, stereos or computers so I didn't really have any grudge against Dell since they sent me a replacement system after tons of troubleshooting. IMO, that is great customer care and honestly when I was shopping for a notebook PC I wanted to have the same kind of customer care and a system I don't have to worry about if it breaks down. So that's my reason for buying Dell and staying with Dell.
