S Video Question, does it work on battery?

HOw do you get the S-video to work on battery? Question deals with navigation in my car. I have a ZX5000 and a usb connected GPS receiver and GPS mapping software. It seems the S-Video out only works when the laptop is running on the power cable.
My car has a monitor popping out of the dash that I can run video to. I dont plan to use my laptop for GPS in car, I just want to mess around with it. Later I plan to build a carputer.

Run a DVD if you can to test at home don't forget the Funtion F4 buttons to switch montors neither care if you use a battery or not.

Could it be disabled due to power settings? Like, does ATI shutdown certain functions in order to conserve power?
