College Laptop...zv6000 question...

Hi,
I am going to order my girlfriend a laptop for college. I have decided on a HP zv6000 . The specs are:
AMD Althon64 3500+, 1GB ram, 80gb 5400rpm hd, 128mb ati graphics card, wireless network card w/ bluetooth, Win XP Pro, and a DVD Burner w/ lightscribe.
I am not concerned at all about the battery life, however, I am very concerned with its performance. I want this computer to still be relatively fast and useful 4 years down the road. Do you all think that this would meet her requirments? She will be doing the usual, watching movies (rarely), listening to music, working with Powerpoint and Word, and surfing the internet.
Thanks,
-Austin

Austin,

You have DEFINITELY made the right decision! This notebook is PLENTY powerful for ANY application (unless you're planning on utilizing some of the most demanding 3d games frequently).

P.S.-If you seek specific info on this model, be sure to check zv6000forums.com

It is very powerful laptop. There should not be any prooblems performance wise. For her uses it more of an overkill. As AMDemon said it can handle any thing other than very serious gaming.

I agree... its overkill... unless she will be kicking your ass at css...

I agree that it is overkill...but that's what I am going for. Basically, her father offered to pay up to $1500 on just a laptop w/o any accessories. But, one must find a stopping point and I did with the above configuration. It is $1400 with an all-in-one printer and a case. I used the education discount...so we came out way under. I just really want it to be a nice laptop 4 years later...that's why I'm configuring it so. You never know what the future holds. Thanks for the comments and keep 'em comin'!

I would rather suggest the new turion notebook from compaq or acer ferrari for her.

The turion makes the notebook light while the zv6000 or R4000 will be heavy for her.

Well, she is not going to be lugging it around much. She will rarely move it so it would not make sense, seeing as how weight is not a factor, to opt for the slower processor. Otherwise, I would totally agree. In addition, if she needs to move it, I can do it for her.

That is more than perfect for anything she'll be doing.
Although it'll be on the heavy side and the battery life will last no more than about 3 hours...

Go with the 12 cell and you'll get more than 3 hrs

I am going to get a 12 cell battery. She isn't going to be mobile with it...but it doesn't cost much to upgrade...so I will.

If you don't mind going through OfficeDepot's current promo, you'd get a much more powerful config. (Even MORE overkill) for the same price after numerous rebates.

yes I simply dont see how to beat the Office Depot deals. One week it is HP, the next week it is Compaq....all of the deals are great!

The zd8000's are huge due to the screen & are heavy & the batterys with 12-cell only get about 50 - 70 minutes of life, dont know how the AMD's will be.... the thing i like about them is in school the keypad is nice but then if you have a base station with wireless KB/Mouse its no big deal...

BTW: the xb2000 is the best HP basestation for the zd8000... Well i think its the only one...

Yeah, that's the clincher for me...The mandatory 17" screen with the zd8k...Batterylife, heat, etc. should not be an issue whatsoever as this will have an AMD processor.
