OK, so I don't know how intelligent this fella is (and the fact that his screen name is Joanne and he goes by Ivan scares me (can you say identity crisis)). So I know none of you care what I have to say so here is the actual conversation we had...

{Joannee 10:09:46 AM} Thank you for choosing Dell. My name is Ivan, how may I assist you today?
{Davin Reust 10:10:01 AM} Will the video card in the iXPS Gen 2 be upgradeable in the future?
{Joannee 10:10:29 AM} yes.
{Davin Reust 10:11:03 AM} Are you sure of that? I was under the impression that the next video cards will be used only in new laptops.
{Joannee 10:11:45 AM} in fact only few inspiron notebook pcs have upgradeable video card
{Joannee 10:12:05 AM} it is a high-end notebook pc that's why
{Davin Reust 10:12:17 AM} But you are sure that the next line of video cards will be available for upgrade in the iXPS Gen 2?
{Joannee 10:12:57 AM} w/c particular video card are u referring to?
{Davin Reust 10:13:38 AM} Either the new ATI card (the moble x800) or the new line of nvidia cards announced for launch (the 7800 series)
{Joannee 10:14:17 AM} let me check if those two video cards will do ok
{Davin Reust 10:14:32 AM} sure
{Joannee 10:15:09 AM} hold on pls..
{Davin Reust 10:15:17 AM} ok
{Joannee 10:19:54 AM} any of the two will work
{Joannee 10:20:26 AM} u just have to flip the pc over and replace the video card inside
{Davin Reust 10:20:58 AM} So you are saying that in the future Dell will be releasing those cards and they will be available for the XPS Gen 2 right?
{Joannee 10:22:02 AM} yes because xps gen 2 can accommodate those video cards or shall i say the video cards will fit that pc
{Joannee 10:22:18 AM} how soon are u planning to purchase a video card?
{Davin Reust 10:22:50 AM} Well, since those cards aren't released yet I will probably purchase them on release.
{Joannee 10:23:43 AM} u can order them online for ur own convenience once we have it already
{Davin Reust 10:24:09 AM} Do you know when either card will be released?
{Joannee 10:24:49 AM} we don't have info on that yet. just check the website once In a while for updates
{Davin Reust 10:25:05 AM} ok, thank you so very much for your help
{Joannee 10:25:11 AM} Is there anything else I can help you with?
{Davin Reust 10:25:19 AM} that should do it
{Joannee 10:25:34 AM} I hope that I was able to assist you in answering your questions and concerns today. Thank you for choosing Dell and have a great day.

So like I said, I am not sure but this guy was gone for a while checking on if this was actually valid (I am assuming talking to product support). If nothing else it does give me hope for the future capabilities of my iXPS Gen 2. Hope others find this as interesting as I did.

Very interesting. The 7800 would have to be a substantial upgrade over t he 6800 for me to go for it considering it would probably cost 500+.

Yeah, I told him I didn't have one yet and he may have been doing it just to get me to buy now (and/or make me happy) but he said it none the less and that is what makes me happy. I do agree that they would both likely be extremely pricy upgrades. I definately don't see the x800 being worth it unless you are very worried about battery life but that is just my opinion.

well since it fits the XPS Gen 2 it should fit the 9300, right?.... just keeping my options open... since it will be a much more substantial upgrade in the 9300.
hope that guy isnt yanking are chains

It should fit but I would expect that the 7800 might have a similar problem in the 9300 (available power) that the 6800 has. The x800 series might make a very nice addition to your 9300's though. I am still not putting my full trust into this guy but like I said before it does give me hope for the future of my system.

I hope so, too

"u just have to flip the pc over and replace the video card inside"

Maybe this Dell rep has got confused with the memory or mini-PCI card (not exactly known for their intellect, this one can't even spell 'you' correctly)...

Anything is possible but he did disappear for a while and I assume go talk to product support so I hope he just didn't really know how to do it (because he is nothing more than a sales rep). If he asked product support and they don't know what a video card is then I am not buying anything from dell ever again lol.

More importantly, is "Ivan" a man or woman?!
Ivan is a common Russian male name.

I agree that that is the most important question however.
...it still vapourware till it all comes out (7800). Also, why would you, imho, go backward to the X800 (equivalent to the 6800 DDR3) when compared to the Ultra, unless you're just an ATI fan ?
Considering replacing a graphics card is more involved than "u just have to flip the pc over and replace the video card in" I would take the advice was a rather large grain of salt.

That still seems very iffy to me. Normally product techs type with proper grammar and spelling. It really seems to me like some kid is pranking you.

And Joannee? About as female as you can get.

I doubt that some kid hacked the dell site and had it link to him and then was worried about also incorporating the customer survey score. That is VERY unlikely imho. However, I would believe that I got ahold of some moron that was just trying to sell one more XPS Gen 2. But like I said, I think he went and talked to a person in produce support (email maybe) and they told him it was viable for the future. As stated before, I take this with a grain of salt but just figured everyone might want to know what I heard from an actual dell rep in regard to this.

There's no reason the vid card in the xps 2 shouldn't be upgradeable. That is the whole point of MXM/Axiom, to make a standardized form for video cards in notebooks so that they can be easily upgraded. Dell created an MXM/Axiom hybrid so there shouldn't be any reason the x800/g70 won't work as long as Delll decides to offer it.

I tend to agree with Joker. I thought that was the whole direction the laptop industry is trying to move in. I realize that Dell's stuff is proprietary but I would assume that they would at least attempt to keep their form factors the same to support upgradeability within their systems.
