Just wanted to know how hot or warm the m70's get, mine seems to get hot after 20 mins of use just below the dock station port.

Hi, torrent89.
As you are one of the few M70 users, I have a question on that laptop, 'cauase I'm thinking of getting one, too. Normally, how long does the 9cell battery last? doing work with MS Word, multiple IE windows, maybe with Winamp at the background.
Thanks.

yea. my M70 also gets hot on this place.. but its not so bad... only when you want to put the notebook on your legs ;-) the legs got warm ;-) good in winter.. bad in summer...

About Battery time:
I also got about 2h 30 min... thats not so god but thats because of the graphic card.. you can maybe get 4h with underclocking the CPU und clock the GPU very low and desable the wireless and turn down the display brigthness.. but i haven't tried this things ;-)

a positive thing is: when i played BF2 i could also play about 1h 50min... thats great.. but then you have to set the GPU clock to AC/DC power... if not it's to slow to play BF2 with everthing on high ;-)

Thanks wazzzup for your comment!
I heard Latitude D810 has about 4 hours and 30 minutes of battery time with 9cell.
Does M70 have a space for 6cell mudular battery that I can attach along with the primary 9cell? Like a dual battery like D810?
Thanks!!

Sorry, Torrent89, for stealing your thread=)

I get about around 3 hrs.

I get about 2.5hrs. on mine. But it all depends on what you are doing. I've gotten less (usually when gaming via wireless).

I don't think the heat issue is too big of a worry. If it overheats the harddrive, THEN, I'd be worried! (e.g. HP/Compaq 610c) This laptop is well designed.

I would not recommend using any powerhouse laptop on your lap (ventilation issues, etc.).

The CPU/GPU areas remain relatively cool on this laptop... which IMHO is good. Disk doesn't suffer from meltdown either.

Seems to run *relatively* cool & quiet...

mine gets pretty warm on the upper right side of the keyboard, as well as that spot under the dport... even if im just surfing the web. does anyone know what temperature is too hot?
also, how can i find out when my fans kick in? thanks in advance.

Under the D/Port? Do your fan/s come on/stay on more often when you use the D/Port as compared to using A/C power WITHOUT the D/Port. That may give you a clue about the excessive(?) warmth.

Uhhh.. the M70 should be red hot where the 2nd memory slot/wifi resides. If your isn't really hot, I'd say something might be wrong with your M70. Nothing unusual... but certainly hotter than most. If I do a lot of 3D work, mine can get a bit warm in the top right, but not hot.

That's pretty subjective...

yes youre right it is hot where the 2nd memory slot is, and gets warm in the top right. i use mine pretty much exclusively for 3d as well, and this spot gets really warm if ive got maya running for a while. although it seems to get fairly warm regardless, after a half an hour or so. i am now running the i8kfangui to monitor my temps, but its only monitoring the cpu and hd temps. id like to monitor the gpu temp, but when i try to enable it, i8kfangui tells me that basically there is a chance it might screw up and lock up my machine, and that if im worried about that scenario, that i should run the dell diagnostics thermal sensor test, to see if my bios supports reading gpu temp. does anyone have info on where to get the diagnostics test?

edit-- nevermind i just ran the test. sorry for being such a newb... this is my first pc after running macs. anyway im now monitoring the gpu temp, as well as the dimm temp. this little app is pretty cool! sooo... while im just running a browser and the fangui, my cpu temp hovers around 105, gpu around 116, dimm around 132, and hd around 100. the fans seem to be on 'slow' mode most of the time, and they hover around 2400 rpms. seems ok to me.
