need to upgrade my router any ideas?

I am the proud owner of a new lappy I6000, I am still having connection problems with the 2915 pro/wireless card even after downloading the newer version drivers from Intel. I am thinking about the D-Link (DI-624M) 108G MIMO router. I found that curcuit city has it for $79.99 after a $40.00 rebate + $10.00 off. Do you know of any better deals or better product??
Thanks I will go shopping on Friday!

I personally love D-Link. Most other tech-types I know seem to think Linksys is the best way to go. My D-Link equipment has worked flawlessly for me for 2 years straight, I've never had to reset it or anything. I've not had or even heard of anyone (that was being honest) having that good of luck with Linksys, especially their wireless products.

One thing to be aware of, MIMO technology is still really new, and last I heard (a couple of months ago) not fully standardized. Early adopters of new technology always get screwed over more than people who wait a while. I'm not saying this to keep you from getting it, just to make you aware that tomorrow's MIMO products may work differently and better than today's. $80 is a really good price for it though.

I recommending against the 108G MIMO D-Link router. You can stick with D-Link if you want, but just get a standard 802.11g 54 MB/sec router. You are wasting your money, because to take advantage of the 108 MB/sec speeds, you need a D-Link 108G card for your laptop. You will see no speed increase, by getting that faster router. MIMO will become part of the next standard 802.11n which will be 108 MB/sec which won't go into effect until late 2006.

None of these Pre N devices will work with the offical 802.11n standard once it comes out. Right now its just a waste of money unless you are willing to just blow your money and upgrade everything to the Pre N spec, and then upgrade again to the offical 802.11n spec. Save your money and just get a standard Wireless G router.

Ok thanks for that info. I don't want to have to get another card for my lappy and I have an older DELL I2500 with a linksys "b" PCMCIA card that i don't want to replace either. Will I be able to use my linksys b card if I get a d-link router. Or should I buy a new card for my old lappy to match manufacturers.

You can use your "b" card with the new "g" router, keep in mind though that the old notebook with the "b" card will connect at the slower 11mbps.

I dont know what card the D-Link uses, but if it is G you will need a new card, and if you want I have a card for that, it was only used for 2 monthes and its in perfect condition....comes with box, card, and CD, so if your interested just drop me a pm or AIM me at GTFan513

OK I took all the replys into consideration. I am leaning towards the D-Link DI524 54MB/PS after a $40.00 rebate it is only $19.99 and if I need the G notebook adapter for my old I2500 it's got a $30.00 rebate and priced @ $19.99 also. I don't think I can go wrong with those prices, even if I have trouble with D-Link I counldn't find a deal like that with the Linksys. Thanks for the imput!!!!

just have a question, my Dl-624 is a 108 Mbps router, does my Intel 2915 a/b/g on my 700m support that speed? if so, how do make it 108?
no your Intel 2915 does not support the 108mbps. To support the 108mbps you will need a wireless adapter in your laptop that is compatible the the d-link 108mbps router, more than likely made by d-link. the 108mbps is pre-n and is not standardized yet therefore each company has their own version of the 108 mbps.

No the mini-pci cards to my knowledge don't support 108Mbps and the one you have definitely does not. In order to get 108Mbps you need either a Super-G Router or a Pre-N router. Both require special PCIMA or USB adapters to connect to them via 108Mbps.

But your card will work with the G-54Mbps specs of those routers.

Also, IMHO stay away from the Super-G routers. They gain that speed by using multiple Frequencies/Channels and can in fact take down other wifi spots around you. So you might upset the neighbors.

and i guess 108 is only good if your transferring files. Regular broadband Internet is not even that fast is it?

I've been using a Dlink DI-784 since September. I love it. No connection issues whatsoever. Never had to reset it except to enable changes in settings such as changing WEP or WPA codes.
I have installed this mini-PCI card on an Inspiron 8600: http://www.yellowbloc.com/catalog/in...roducts_id=173
...works great at 108 on A and G.

Wow, didn't know they made those yet. How much heat does that sucker dish out. How about battery life?

Not much more heat and battery consumption than the Dell mini-pci TM1400 that it replaced.

My dads company has teh Dlink 624 108Mbit router (no MIMO stuff) and its great! I bought that, and 12 Gigabyte 108Mbit MiniPCI cards for their laptops and it runs perfectly. Their speed is much faster than with the 54Mbit cards, and they don't have to have dongles or PC cards sticking out!
