Oh dang. That sux0rs. If you reformatted once already and it's not detecting, I don't think formatting it again will help. BUT, if it does work, do you really want the chance of it failing again? My Dell better not have problems. I can only hope though.

Good luck.

Well the OS detects the D drive in My Computer, but it will not detect any software in the D drive. I am was really upset when the only solution the Dell Techie provided was "reformat your drive." Well I have my own solution, sens me My RMA so I can send My defective system packing.

Even if the drive is fixed, I am still concerned about the sTreaKs when playing DVD's on the WSXGA+. I think they may have a new driver that offers a solution, but causes other problems as well.

I know this is least of your problems but how's the keyboard?

Something to get use to, but I dont think they are any worse than any other notebook. Well.. maybe... this is my first lappy. The aluminum Apple powerbook keys are the best I have seen on any laptop and they illuminate. I am actually considering making The SwiTch if these Dell problems do not get resolved. I have a Desktop that runs windows XP Pro and most of my games, so getting an Apple Powerbook may be something different and exciting. My only gripe with getting an Apple is their ExtreMe lack of any GaMe Library, but since my destop runs most of my games, needing only a few inevitable upgrades, I have that issue mostly covered. I dont like what any other notebook vendors currently offer (please don't start pitching me the "Get A Sager" motto, I am not interested, does not suit my needs). First I will see how the Dell situation pans out. Hopefully all goes well.

Any suggestions or questions, Please ADD+++

Well, if you got a desktop to play your games then why not get something small and light? Something to use around the house that gets 10+ hours on one battery, lol.

OkAy - I have reformatted and installed all the drivers. My system seems to be autoplaying software normally, but I will keep any eye on it. As for the StreaKs they are still present, but I will try and install the new video drivers tomorrow to see if this will be a solution.

An Apple may be better in the long run, when College becomes more demanding and I have less and less opportunities to GaMe, but I cannot give up on my GaMing LiBraRy just yet. +PluS Apple software is expensive. BtW- Apple is getting Halo.

Which video drivers are you loading?

This one?
No, I was going to download this OnE
L0ki047 downloaded drivers from the Nvidia website and they really messed with his performance. I think it is best to download the correct drivers from the Dell website.

Ah, I see. Wait a minute, the newest drivers didn't come with your system? On a CD or something? That's messed up you have to download them yourself.

Just checked mine and it's STILL in the boxing stage.

Hey.
Everything is all GooD except for the StreaKs when playing DVDs (the streaks r like thin threads of fichingwire across the screen). Hopefully this will be fixed when I install the NeW Video drivers (I do have 30 days)....

To Be Continued...

BTW_ I am going to start a new thread with a complete review once I spend some more time with my i8600. If anyone has anypicture requests let me know, but I dont have any webhosting abilities sOo....

You know what? After reading around on different forums, is the streaking problem only on the WSXGA+?

I also found this whilst surfing.

After my lappy comes in, I'm gonna install a fresh copy of XP pro and all the latest bios and drivers off of that site.

FlyPaper, know how long it stays in boxing? It's been in that step for 2 days.

edit: One more thing, is it possible to do bios updates without a floppy? I heard you can put it on hd and run it. My lappy has no floppy so that's why I'm asking. TIA

I have recently started to get those same thin lines across the bottom of the screen during benchmarking. This seems very similar to what you are seeing when playing DVD's. Do you know why this might be occurring?

AwEsoMe!!!
I am considering returning mine and configuring one with the WUXGA display because of the problems when playing DVDs.

Doh!

I'm an idiot. I fudged up on my order. I wanted the a/b/g but instead just got the -b (2100). I thought that only the 2100 was internal.

Although I have -b here it'd be nice to be able to go up to -a later.

I LoVe DeLL

I spoke with the return department at Dell and they spoke with in house tech support about the issues with the USXGA+ displays, they called me back within 2 hours and will be sending me a WUXGA display. The Tech. thuroughly looked over the forums to make sure there was no known issues with the WUXGA display playing media and that everything would be compatable with my system (which I knew it would be). eXceLLenT SeRvice!!!

So they're sending a tech out to put it in too? Now THAT'D be awsome. I was reading some CNET reviews and everyone dumps on Dell tech support.

Good to hear that you're not getting the service ALL the CNET reviewers got, haha.

WUXGA, man! Woohoo! You will love it.

As always, I try to provide an update on MY laptop. It's approximately 100 miles from me, at an Aiborne station. Tomorrow could be the day. Will keep everyone posted.

Dell offered me 2 options:
1. Install the WUXGA display while on the phone with Techical Support so they can do a walkthrough of the installation, or
2. Order a Component Install for $149, where a Dell Tech would come to intall the WUXGA

Since I did have to pay $102 for the WUXGA display upgrade, I am not going to pay $149 for installation (more than the cost of the display)
