Damn, dude. That's good stuff. Everything should work out fine for ya. That's cool that they offer that kind of option.

Keep us posted.

They don't offer the option I received, and its more of an accomdation to the circumstance than an option.

DeLL Post I made this post and it is similiar to what I told Dell Priority Returns over the phone. My call made them more aware of the magnitude of the situation and once they scanned th forums, I think they realized that something must be done.

Ah, I see. Dell freaking sucks. If the 8600 doesn't live up to my expectations, I'll return it and wait for a 8890, loaded to the gills. . .

The i8600 will surpass your expections, especially since you configured your system with the WUXGA display. I can see how many would be upset with Dell's Suppory, but for me, I have always been pleased with their services. One most always approach customer service for any product with persistence. No company wants to deal with problems, they want your money and for you to be on your way without return.

Hi folks, first post here. I just ordered last Thursday night from the Small Business division a i8600 notebook, it's coming with the 1.7GHz processor, 15.4" WSXGA+ screen, Win XP Pro, 128MB nVidia® GeForce™ FX Go 5650 4X AGP Graphics, 60GB 7200 HD, DVD+RW drive, 256MB of memory (will be 1GB when my Crucial memory is installed), Bluetooth card and extra battery. What I wanted to say is I wanted the WUXGA screen but I was not able to add it to the configuration for some reason, however when I tried it on the Home division side I was. The main reason I had to order it from the SB side was the discount coupons I had, I really hope my screen will not show these defects or they have a fix coming very soon!

I see my notebook has been made and tested already (quick eh) and is in the "boxing" stage, it was originally suppose to ship out on the 7th but the rep who I called because of a question said it probably will ship out earlier. Btw, are these 8600's made in China?

I'm interested in hearing from you folks on any other tidbits of info you may have and simply just reading your great info.

Until next time...

There'll be a lot more coming from me when my precious arrives. But, to asnwer your question, the problems do seem to be coming from the WSXGA+ display, 1600x1040?

I wish I could've configured my system with 256mb. I was stuck with the 512mb (2 sticks). I think I'll only have enough fundages for an extra 512 stick later on.

Welcome to the forums. My first time saying that. Woohoo!

When you recieve your I8600 do not even open it as much as you want to. Call Dell return the order and reconfigure with the WUXGA display. NoT one person with the WSXGA+ has NOT had problems with their displays playing DVD media maximized to full screen. READ HERE

Dell made a special accomadation for me, they may and probably will not for you. I had a very responsive return representative and a very ethusiastic tech fufill my request.

Hey FlyPaper, is it possible to flash the system bios without a floppy drive? I know you configured yours without one as well but I thought I read somewhere you downloaded stuff off Dell and installed them.
I'd really like to be able to simply do what you suggest but I'm worried they wouldn't honor the discounts that I used last week when I placed my ordered. I really wanted the WUXGA screen but the SB configuration wouldn't allow me to do that with the other parts I choose, even as of last night it still wouldn't when I tried. If they would do for me like they did for you I would accept that or if they would allow me to re-configure a new notebook with the WUXGA screen while allowing me to use my discounts which amounted to hundreds then I would be happy with that too. If I unable to go those routes and a driver fix doesn't come real soon I'll simply return it and come up with something else that works for me. This is my first Dell and I really hope something acceptable comes out of this.

On another note do you guys know where these I8600's are configured?

Yes it is possible to flash the Bios without a floppy drive. If you go to the downloads section of Dell's website, they give instructions on how to do so. I haven't installed new video drivers or flashed the BIoS. Before I install new Video drivers I am going to ghost my C drive because you never know what video drivers do and the system restore doesn't always work that well.

Dell Systems are assembled in Malaysia. You will get a nice "Made in Malaysia" sticker on the shipping box. LoL

Also, I do not see why they wouldnt let you configure your system with a WUXGA display. SouNdS StrAnGE.

I just made my first DVD backup, Black Hawk Down. After I did some DVD Shrink, I used Nero 6 to burn the backup onto DVD+R. AwEsOmE!!!
Congratulations on making your first DVD backup! I just love the DVD+R(W) format, that's what I use on all of my desktop PC's and haven’t had any problems whatsoever.

As far as not being able to order the WUXGA screen I agree with you, it certainly does "SouNdS StrAnGE". If I wanted a 1.6GHz Pentium-M processor I could have gotten it with the WUXGA screen but since I wanted the 1.7GHz version it wouldn't let me, don't know why but that’s what I got when I tried to configure my system over and over with the 1.7GHz and the WUXGA screen.

Have you heard of anything new as far as a driver fix from Dell goes for the WSXGA+ screen problem, it really doesn't make too much difference to me which screen I have but I do want it to work properly which so far the WSXGA+ seems to not be doing.
No Driver Fix...Thats why they are upgrading me to the WUXGA display. There should be no reason why you cannot configure with a WUXGA display and a Pentium M 1.7 processor.

I think at the time, there was a shortage of 1.7s so that's why you couldn't get it. I'd call Dell and tell them FlyPaper's getting a WUXGA sent to him and you want the same thing.
Yes maybe they would do the same? FlyPaper, please keep us informed as to when your new WUXGA panel arrives and how the install goes, maybe I'll be able to get from you via PM or e-mail some more detailed info that I could use with Dell?

Even better, get the extension and e-mail of the guy that FlyPaper talked to and arranged for the screen change.
I hope my order is a priority over those that are configuring their systems from the website. My WUXGA display order is still processing, so I may call and see if there is any problems. I will be sure to let everyone know how the installation goes and will take pictures if requested.

I better receive a new WUXGA and NOT a refurbished one, I am paying an upgrade fee, so I expect a new display. If not, I will be sending the display right back at 'em.

Brassua are you defective? LoL

I just confiured a I8600 with both with a WUXGA display and a Pentium M 1.7.

JuicyFruit u get ur I8600 yet?
Hi FlyPaper! I can configure it on the Dell Home & Home Office side without any problem but not through the Dell Small Business division where my discounts had to be used. I just tried it again for what must be the 20th time and sure enough I could only configure the WUXGA and other parts I wanted except it would only work with the 1.6GHz processor, it's when I choose the 1.7GHz CPU and the WUXGA together that stops the whole process.
This is what comes up everytime when I choose the 1.7GHz CPU and the WUXGA screen together thru Dell SB. "We're sorry, a system meeting your criteria is not available at this time. Please change one of the selections highlighted in red below to help us find a system that best meets your needs. Or, click on a highlighted selection to prioritize it and see a system with this option."
