Good Deal? - Page 5

Sorry didn't know you were configuring your system in Dell Small BiZ. May I ask why? From what I can tell there are better deals in Home/Home Office, especially if you can find additional coupons online.

The main reason why I went with the Small Biz route was I didn't have any Home discounts instead only for SB, I'll actually end up getting this a lot cheaper then the Home side (no discount of course) but without the WUXGA screen. I didn't see any coupons online for Home/Home Office, I only see them for SB.

My Promotions

I had an instant coupon for $250 off an any Inspiron that I found on Techbargasin.com, then a $250 mail-in-rebate from Dell, free shipping, and a free Truemobile 2300 router.

RisKy OpeRaTioN

I think installing the display is going to be an eXtremely risky operation and I would suggest trying to avoid the operation as much as possible. I think this is why Dell doesn't usually offer the upgrade or replacement. +Plus If I get the display installed correctly I still may end up having dead pixels... but in the end I won't because I will not tolerate them.

On my 5670 with 1600x1200 res, I've had 3 dead pixels from the beginning. They're scattered all over the place and I never see them. Only time is when I have an IM window there. But at such a high resolution, it'll be hard to see. I think a few are tolerable, as long as they're not dead center. Sager's policy is all in the location. They divide the screen into 9 quandrants and if you get one in the center quadrant, they'll replace it for you. I wonder what Dell's policy is.

There was a mix-up with Airborne so I'll get my 8600 tomorrow. I'll be spending all day installing stuff but I will try to post pics of both systems (8600 and 5670), side by side.

edit: I only have 2 dead pixels, haha.

Go here to check for dead pixels (launch calibrator).

Mine has shipped, I don't whether to be excited or not? Roughly how many days does it take to be delivered after it has been built and shipped, I chose free ground shipping and I see UPS is the shipper.

It's hard to say. For me, the online status thing was totally off. So instead, I called 800-433-9014 for my status instead. Mine was in the boxing stage for 3-4 days before it shipped.

DVD Shrink is very user-friendly and I ran into No problems while using the software. DVD Shrink allows you to preview the DVD media while editing. DVD Shrink also allows you to purge all of the unecessary feature you do not need on your backup, such as foreign subtitles, and allows you to make parts of the DVD media still images, like when you are switching to DVD menus most DVD show a small scene while doing so. All of these features help to be able to get the DVD media onto a 4.7GB DVD-R. Then when you are done with all of your editing you can save the file to you Hard drive and burn the file onto DVD using Nero 6 Ultra or using another burn program, or use Alcohol 120% drive image to view the DVD from the Hard Drive. Got my new 8600 w/WSXGA screen on Thursday and so far I'm pretty happy with it, everything seems to run as well as I expected it would. Looking very closely at the screen it appears that I only have 1 dead pixel or maybe it's a dead sub pixel, it's on the very right side and really isn't that noticeable at all, it seems to not stick out terribly. What seems to be the average for dead pixels? Do most screens tend to have at least one?

I did pop in a DVD and ran it using WinDVD 4 that came with the laptop and I enlarged it to full screen and didn't notice any lines on the screen. Am I supposed to play a certain type of DVD like widescreen, letterbox or something else particular to notice the streaks across the screen that a lot of people have noticed on their WSXGA screens?

Oh one thing I did notice that could get annoying is the HD seems to get accessed a lot, like every so many seconds, I know on my desktop Win XP based PC's I see this happen but not as pronounced.

I have received my WUXGA and I have two extrme issues with what they have sent me:
1. The WUXGA display is a Refurbished Product (a nice yellow reminder on the package)
2. They did NoT send me a return label for the WSXGA+ display, so therefore I have been charged the entire $529 for the display.

I have already emailed the representative who has been handling my issue and have not installed the display yet, but I will keep everyone updated. LaTeR
