closing the lid while on lappy

Thread Starter
this is my first laptop (700m) and i just wanted to know if its okay to close the lid without shutting down. I read somewhere its not good to turn it off when the HDD is loading but other then that, is it just a simple close the lid whenever you want?

i noticed once when i closed the lid, the battry light flashed, then after a while it stopped flashing. why would it do that?

can i charge the battery when the computer is off (ie shutdown off)?

thanks

Only caution would be not to put it inside a case and restrict the cooling airflow.

Check owner manual, but battery light may flash while charging and stop when charged.

Yes, not only can you charge your battery while system is off, it usually takes less time than when it is on.

You can adjust the setting to see what happens when you close the lid. There is a little switch that tells the computer when the lid is shut. By default, on most laptops it is set to go to suspend when you close the lid. Change it to "turn off display" or "do nothing".
