what is it with people, i love my powerbook G4 it's great,

at the motel i'm staying at people walk by me in the lobby working on it and they say cool computer and then they see it is a mac and say never mind ,it's like the think macs are obsolete or something

how could they not tell it was a mac before they said "cool computer". Maybe they are just jealous.

what has given apple such a bad wrap

Apples, unfortunately, have always been considered "toy" computers. That and most people have only ever experienced them in school where, not only do they have to put up with using community computers, but those memories of school usually cloud the fact that Macs are good computers.

Maybe I'm the dark, but why are they considered "toys"?

Ummm, I think it's perhaps a little biased when a user called them "toy" computers.

Apples are very capable machines for what they do. They make great laptops and desktops. When people say "Oh, it's an Apple..." they probably mean:

Wow! That's a really cool laptop you have there! I think I might want to buy one of those! But it's a Mac... which means I can't run any software I own on it. I can't use it for work, I can't use it for gaming...

A lot of people don't have experience with Macs (me included). And yes, I also make fun of Mac users not because the computers are bad, but because they're MACS.

It's kind of like picking on the new kid. He's easy to spot and he's not like everyone else.

People just make fun of Macs because they can. Plus the one button mouse is FREAKY!. ;D

Why are you all thinking negative? People act this way (don't know what to say) when they're confronted with things they don't understand or are unfamiliar with not necessarily because they look down upon it.

Because people don't understand them.

Well, alot of people have jaded experiences with Macs in schools... I'm afraid using a G3 Imac with 32 MB (32!!! - I don't know which is more strange, that apple offered 32, or that the school bought them with 32 - My Pentium 1 machine had 64) running OS 10.0 was a really painful experience.
