I tried to upgrade the 40gb 4200rpm hard drive to a 80gb samsung 5400rpm hard drive. the HD was cloned using Ghost 9.0. But when the new 80gb hard drive was installed, it stopped starting XP on its half way. Anybody can help me with that? thanks.

Gonna buy R4035 tomorrow unless someone stops me after they hear what I intend to use it for...

Namely, I need the computer mainly to work on word processors and do some small time graphics editing. In addition, I'd like to play games, such as Sid Meier's Pirates! and the upcoming Civilization IV. Anyone know if the graphics card is up to these games?

Compaq R4000 specs and question

I have an R4000 with the AMD 3200+ with 80 G HDD and 1 G RAM with the ATI Express 200 videocard. I would like to know if there is a way to get a faster clock speed. When I run the Device Manager it says the cpu is running below 1GHz clock speed. What gives? I have an AMD 3000+ in my desktop and can get it up to 2GHz and it is listed at 1.8. Is there a way to get this running faster?

Thanks.

On battery the top speed was only 1.8Ghz and NOT 2.0Ghz.
Add: Even with the Power Scheme of Always On still only 1.8Ghz on battery.
Confirmed in CPU-Z.

I have a R4000 and the lower clock speed when on battery power is definitely due to cool and quiet. The processor will max out about 200MHz below its normal max clock speed when running on battery power. My CPU won't go over 2.2GHz on battery power, even if the windows power scheme is set to always on. If you don't like this then you can just remove cool and quiet.

I have 3 laptops and this is one of them. Actually it was my wifes. And you are right about the heat, yikes it gets hot.

3 weeks ago I went and bought her an HP Pavilion DV8220CA. This has the mobile Turion, is much faster, cooler and has a 17 inch screen. And it was the same price I paid for the Compaq a year ago...

SpeedSwitchXP is a GREAT program to use with THIS notebook and other AMD notebooks. I highly recommend it.
As for the RAM, AMD mobile doesn't support dual channel. If you goto AMD.com and look at the details of the processor. you will see that. The reason for that was because of heat and battery life I think.
