That's right--EAC & LAME are unparalleled for mp3 creation.

Exactly. Best quality, small memory footprint. Winamp and its stupid skins is for kids.

Foobar is a good option which is complete configerable. For me as I lazy, WMP10 works fine.

Cool thing about foobar is the built-in ASIO and bit-perfect capabilities. That I admit.

Great info. I went with WinAmp because it's got a plugin that lets me play directly from my Creative Zen Extra wich is really cool. The global hotkeys are cool also. And I guess it supports ASIO (still learning what that is).

For encoding, I've been using Audiograbber and Lame which seems to be great but the MP3s I've encoded seem to be not as loud as others I've acquired elsewhere.

You may just need to normalize the volume of your MP3s... I use MP3Gain to normalize mine, because some albums seem to be much louder than others.

Is there a MTP plugin for WinAmp yet?

And I also heard many people are unhappy with the latest versions of WinAmp and are choosing instead to go with a much older version.

Make sure that "normalizing" is unchecked (under the "advanced" button.)
Anyway, EAC is better (with LAME, of course) than Audiograbber because it performs a secure rip. But this makes it slower, as well.

Old news--the latest version of Winamp is fine. Also, no MTP plugin, AFAIK.
