Which antenna for AUX/MAIN on Wireless Card

Hi,

Just received the mPCI Wireless card in the mail. I opened up 9880 keyboard to find two wires in the PCI bay where the card will go. One wire is gray and routes up in center portion of notebook (towards screen-end), the other black wire routes around the TV-Tuner card and into left side of notebook. There are two connections on the wireless card; MAIN and AUX.

Does anybody know which wire goes to which connector?

Thanks!

Thanks. I was suprised at the quick call I got back from Sager on same question and they basically said both wires would work too. One is for bluetooth, the other for WLAN. I'm not sure if there is a difference between the two antennas but the tech said go with the black one it's longer so that's what I did.

Thanks again for your quick reply too!

Cheers

The black one is for WLAN, and it needs to be connected to MAIN, not AUX.

You will find that if you connect the wrong one, you will still get a connection, but it can be considerably weaker. THis was a major problem with the 8790/GX7s. Most individuals had to open up their systems and swap the wires.

What type of card did you get?

Where are the actual antenna ends mounted in Sagers? The base of the notebok or the lcd?

Anyway, I can't say if the other antenna is for bluetooth, but typically if two antennas are attached, the card chooses the antenna with the strongest reception - a feature called Antenna Diversity.

Ratmyr; I got the standard one (no BT) from Sager: the MSI MP54G4 I believe.

Mich43L; Both wires appear to route into the LCD screen. Are you saying that if I connect the other (gray) wire into the AUX connector on the card, the card will choose a signal based on the connector (MAIN/AUX) with the strongest signal?

Forgive my ignorance...I haven't even looked on MSI's site for tech information on the HW operations of this card...
