400 -> 533mhz FSB (dip switch on Z71v)? - Page 2

Okay, my next question might sound stupid, but I just don't know.

If I get my laptop configured at a local shop, with a Pentium M 1.6 Ghz (400 fsb), will I be able to switch the dipswitch without voiding the warranty? I mean, can they see if I did it?

Thank you.

1.6 -> 2.13 seems to be a sure thing almost.
Just bought the 1.7...so that should give me 2.26?

Sweet! Can't wait to try it.

with the dothan 400mhz fsb cpus can you still use ddr2 pc-4200 533mhz ram with it or does it have to be pin-modded first?

and also if it does run does the ram run at 400 or 533mhz?

thanks
the ram runs at pc3200 if it is a 400fsb dothan and when u pin mod it or however way u set it to 533fsb it will run like a 533 dothan and ur ram will run at pc4200

Dude!!! HUGE SUCCESS!!!

Order Intel Pentium M 1.7 -- 400FSB off ebay for $160.00

Received it today, install it with AS5

Boot up, BIOS will show 1.7...

Once into windows, calculated out to 2.26GHz!!!!!!!

Currently running at full speed w/o undervoltage. Average temp on casual usage according to Mobile Meter...58c!!!!

Dude! This is sweet.

Did a SandraSoft Speed Test....

SiSoftware Sandra

congrad.. time for sum undervolting.. and i like to know can you feel the diff between 1.86 and 2.26?
I am trying to play with undervolting now..

It seems so far, stable @ max speed is around 1.308v for me so far. And Min @ 0.732v.

can u pin mod the z70v? and will the fsb get the boost too?
you can pin mod any 400 Mhz Dothan CPU for the FSB boost. The Z70v just doesn't have the instant switch.
anyone with a z70v do a pinmod? if so how much does it change your battery life. I ordered a 1.86 533FSB chip with my lapy but i tihnk i might sell it for a 1.7 400FSB and then pin mod it to 2.26

Sorry to jump on your thread but quick question. Overclocking the Z71 w/ a PM Dothan is as simple as changing the dipswitch setting???

Hey WhiteHeat..Got a question for yo....

Is the bottom of your laptop a bit hot. The side where the intel pro wireless card is at, not the site where the CPU.

CPU is fine around 58c. But I do notice the other side right above the HD is a bit hotter than I had the normal 1.86 533FSB Dothan in there.

Sweeeeet!
ok when you pin mod it, the CPU will still fit even though you have a wire in two holes? I know the wire has to be very small but I was wondering if that is how it is supposed to work...

My 2200BG card is getting HOT - I am looking at an Atheros ABG to see if it will run cooler - it does take less power than intel but gets a better signal

I do not get the heat anywhere but right under the Wireless card.

That is exactly the same experiences I am getting. Right at the wifi. Strange thing is that, when using the normal 1.86 533FSB Dothan, I didn't notice that heat there.

Will that Atheros card fit? WHere did you find it?

It will fit as it is a mini pci type 3b card (same as our slot and the same as the 2200bg and 2915abg)

I just ordered it from Netgate.com it was $50 + ~$11 shipping. - Best deal I could find - plus I like netgate for my wireless stuff.

Why did I choose this card?

Atheros cards are awesome! Have great linux support. Are known to run cool...

Below is a pic comparing it to other cards...

I will try it out and let you know.
