I just purchased a new T42p last week, and I have just gotten around to posting some pictures. It's much to fun playing with it at this point to stop and take pictures.

Enjoy:

I appreciate it. I have waited about a month for it. It plays CS:S pretty well too.

Is the 9 cell battery sticking out a bother? Or you don't really notice it. I'm working on purchasing a system and I'm trying to decide whether to go with the 9 cell or go with the 6 cell and buy an extra 6 cell. Thanks

I would go with the 6 cell, as well as an extra. The 9 cell is a pain sticking out, but that's th only flaw I think. I get 5-5 1/2 hours of runtime with the 9 cell though. So, I guess that is a trade off with the extra size of battery. The 9 cell makes it weigh more as well. It is a wonderful laptop though, with many great pros, and few cons about it. I am working on a review for it at the moment, and I will have one posted as soon as I get a chance to finish it.

I am not sure about performance in respect to the 9700, but I think that it is basically a rearchitectured 9600 with 128MB of Dedicated VRam. The 9700 might be better, but I have never used one, so can't really compare the two.

This is a hell of beautiful laptop. I really like IBM design.

Nice laptop. I noticed that you opted to go without the fingerprint reader. Smart move. I turned mine off after a week or so since it was just a pain always swiping my finger whenever i had to restart or turn the darn thing on.

where does a fella get the best deal on one of these, everywhere i look has these at $2500+ ?

Education deals or EPP (employee) pricing. You can get around 33% using EPP, but educational pricing simply doesn't make sense. Virginia used to have great deals, including 40% off some very high end models... you'll just have to hope your state has a good relationship with IBM.
