Screen replacement question

post #1 of 10

So heres the problem. I have had my I9300 since May 24, and I love this machine!
But recently I have noticed a small scratch in the middle of the screen, when viewing the screen in normal light and viewing any pages that aren't black look awsome, but whe the screen is off I can see it.
And also since I used this Screen Kleen wipes by the company Read write I have small streaks I can see when the screen is black.... anyways If I call or email Dell will the simply send me a replacment screen, and if so can I keep this one.... I got the XGA+ and it looks amazing to me, not sure again which one, but the brightness goes up and down 7 clicks.
I know there are some threads about this but couldn't find one that suited my needs, sorry for repeats. Thanks for your help again!

You have an LG screen if it adjusts 7 levels up or down.
I would request a replacement.

From what I gathered by reading past threads is they might just send me a replacment, and from what I rember it saying it would be fiarly easy to attach yourself correctly?

Are you sure that's true, about the seven clicks?? My system/peripheral list at support.dell says I have a Samsung screen (and I have no sparkles but a little light leakage at the bottom -- consistent with Samsung), and I just checked my brightness level: SEVEN CLICKS, up and down.

Can it be that Samsung screens also adjust by seven clicks?? I would love to believe I have an LG screen, but I doubt it. Is there a way to determine absolutely, besides looking at your part numbers on the dell support site?

yeah my screen has no "sparkle" to me atleats and SLIGHT light leakage...I really like it. For example I can not see the scratch at all while looking at this fourm or any web page for that case

I got the idea from this forum. I read that 7 adjustments up or down mean an LG screen. I am not sure about the Samsung screens. Anyway I know I have an LG screen and it has seven brightness adjustments.

It is a matter of personal preference. There are many who like the Samsung and many who like the LG.

Samsung -> Yellow/Sunlight Tone/Warner Temperature
LG -> Blue/Icy Tone/Cooler Temperature

The easiest way to spot it is looking at white color or flash tone photos.. If human flash color in photo looks like death from morgue. IT'S a LG. For me it's bad. Samsung has warmer color like creamy white you can see under light bulbs. Neither are perfect. I prefer Samsung because with some color adjustments it will reduce yellow tone dramatically. For LG, I can never get rid of the blue/icy color without overdone other colors.

However, Cooler color tend to fool your eyes to make it looks sharper/brighter. It's personal preference.
