Well, I showed the girlfriend these pictures and a few others around the net and she seems interested- thanks for posting them! Now I've just gotta find one she can hold in person so she can make a final decision. Hopefully they'll have a few in stock in Canada by september- you yanks got the lion's share on the first shipment.

Optimo,

What kind of material is the notebook made of? Plastic, metal, aluminum, etc? THanks

This notebook is made of carbon fiber material

sorry guys, i was in korea because of a family issue. but now im back. its not carbon fiber. its plastic on top, metal on the mouse buttons, pearl white is painted on the battery, and the HDD cover is made out of aluminum. this laptop does get warm on the bottom. and i am actually going to talk to asus to see if warranty is voided if we have a custom backcover with vent holes. taking the cover off drops the cpu temp by 10 degrees. and asus' prototype had vents. i dunno why the production model doesnt. but its maainly the harddrive that gets hot. maybe if they had vetter ventilation. asus came out with a new bios that helped the temps a bit. anywho, we are located in san jose.

Nice pics & nice lappy

One last question Optimo, is the plastic sturdy and well contructed without any flexes (back of screen, keyboard, armrest flexing?). Also, I want your opinion on the quality of the screen (colors, brightness, sparkles...?). If everything sounds good, I am ready to buy this machine!!! I wish I could see it in person first...

Does anybody know if there are any stores that carry Asus notebooks in Southern California?

where is so cal are you? i go to school in pomona and used to work in LA. i go to irvine riverside and sometimes SD to chill, during fall i can show you if you want. build quality is great. no flex. sound is kinda weak tho unless its dead silent. because the speakers are pointing down. screen quality i like. only bad thing is the glare in the sun. but just face the other way. ahhah. brightness you can adjust which saves battery. one thing tho. the power 4 gear mode. when in batt mode, it goes to 800 mhz. but when you change the p4g modes, it changes the brightness to save the battery life, but i also think it changes the fsb or something. because the speed is slower in the battery saving modes compared to the high performance mode. even if you crank up both screens to the brightest setting. yeah.. just remember the palm does sweat a lil.

Thanks for the offer Optimo but I have already decided to buy it in 2 weeks (hopefully). Everybody at this forum gave me some straight honest answers and opinions and it is just what I needed.
