Anyone know a place that sells em or if they are coming out in the near future so we can add one ourselves?

Am looking to swap one with my xps gen 2 cd burner.

Thx

Hp outfits their 8000 series laptop with lightscribe. So it's available. Maybe you can buy it from them or go to their forum and ask owners what make and model they are and google it.

What is LightScribe?

Sagers are shipping with lightscribe dvd burners. This means their is a drive out their with a form factor that will work in the xps2, just finding someone who sells the drive alone.

yeah lightscribe is the awesomeness. We do need to find out who sells them. I suppose you might be able to pick it up in HP spare parts though. Do they make lightscribe DvD burners or just CD anyone know?

NEC will have new models (ND-6xxxA and ND-7550A) that support LightScribe in Q3 of 2005, so they should be available in few months. http://www.cdr-zone.com/news/hot_nec...iter_news.html

Not sure about Sony or Toshiba.

Lightscribe uses dye to make silk-screen quality labels on your discs. Put the disc in and burn it as usual and then use a program such as Norton to make a lightscribe label. FLip the disc upside down in the dvd drive (there are lightscribe cd drives as well that can make lables on dvds of course just cant write dvds) and imprint the lightscribe label on it again with Norton or whatever program you choose to use. Lightscribe is too hyped. There are printers that can do it better and you have to buy that lightscribe media which isnt even highly available right now.

Another thing I just thought about .. dont wanna go to HP cause I dont care for em. Have had nothing but problems with any HP DVD-RW I ever bought from em. All of em failed within 2 months.

My understanding, and I certainly can be corrected, is that light scribe is slow and can only be done in black/white, at this time?
Yeah lightscribe is like just a gold disk that you imprint with dark brown/black design

Only good if you don't take your laptop to places.

so u burn dvds while ur on the airplane or at the pooL???

I only do any burning when im at home!

I occasionally burn DVDs at work or at some conventions/meetings or in hotels. It wouldn't be convenient to carry an extra external drive

Can't do it on an airplane, it'll suck the battery power out quickly.

P.S. Bringing your laptop near a pool is not a good idea

You guys have the wrong idea of burning DVDs on the go. What you're supposed to do is bring your 9300 to your friend's house with a spindle of DVD-Rs and ask to "look" at his (or her) DVD collection...heh
