Updates on HP Laptops?

HP announced that they updated their laptops. They use past tense, yet many of you say that they are "going" to update their laptops. Which is true? Also, when/if they make the shift, what will change? Should I hold out on a zv6000 purchase until the change is made?
Thanks

The various announced HP/AMD notebook offerings seem to be scheduled for release in a series of waves. The 1st has already occurred with the addition of the Turion versions of the ze2000 & m2000 making these the 'z' versions. Personally, I couldn't possibly be more repulsed considering they both only offer 4200RPM harddrives & only 4:3 aspect ratio screens!!!

The 2nd wave (next week) will include AT LEAST the much anticipated L2000 also featuring a Turion processor. Once again, this particular notebook doesn't come close to a dream-system since it can only be configured with the mediocre ATi x200m.

Other models expected to be emulated in an AMD version are: zd8000, dv4000, dv1000, v2000, v4000, & perhaps x6000.

Waiting it out & not going with a zv6000/r4000 is a question that requires further elaboration on your part...Like what do you intend on using your new notebook for? Will you be gaming intensely? If so, 3d games? How imperative is the system's mobility level?

For example, if you do play many demanding games & mobility isn't really a factor....then you'd probably appreciate the upcoming zd8k with the ATi Express 600 (256MB DEDICATED VRAM) & sxga 17"widescreen & probably Athlon64 processor.

Thanks for the informative post. One question though, do you know if HP plans to update the zv6000 in particular? If so, what do they plan to change/add?

I dont think the ZV6000/R4000 wiould change. Since they are still new models. They were released only in March. So, there probably wont be any major upgrades any time soon.

put a turion in a ZV6000 and you'd be all set.

I'm really not fond of turions and centrinos. I don't like the idea of sacrificing processing power over battery life.

um, the turion is a 64 bit CPU that delivers Athlon like performance. It is certainly better than the Sempron junk.

turions are more or less just AMD playing the binning game with all the CPUs that come off the line capable of running at lower voltages being labled as turions instead of A64s. Or at least that's how i understand it.

Of course it's better than a Sempron, but not an Athlon64. I'm not saying they're not good, but since I don't care about battery life, it would be foolish to sacrifice performance over battery life.

Agreed, considering that the zv6000 IS a Desktop Replacement notebook
