Area-51 7700 Messenger Bag!?!

Hey everyone! I put in my order for the 7700 a few weeks back. Going through that Great "Phase Game." I was wondering if anyone knew of any Messanger Bags that this massive "Portable Desktop" would fit into. If anyone could tell me what kinda of messenger bags they use it would be a Great help to me. I know alienware offers a messenger bag and some backpacks. I already have the XL backpack on the way with the laptop.

Thank You!

maybe this should go IN the laptop forum?

the messenger bag is a steaming pile of monkey dung. it's thin and I wouldn't even use it. I can't believe that's what they give. I'd much rather have and extra $2 off my order, so it sits in a closet in my house.

I got the backpack and I am very pleased with it. It's got loads of padding and you can fit all kinds of goodies in with it. I take my laptop and all accessories to work evreyday and never have to carry two bags to do it.

I use the backpack - it's working out great. Easier on the back.

I agree with Keisur - the messenger bag from AW is too flimsy to haul the 7700 around. I use it to store other stuff - CD's, DVD's, peripherals, porn, etc. Good luck on finding a msgr bag that is sturdy enough to carry the beast.

So nobody who owns the Area-51 7700 has a messanger bag other than the one alienware supplies?

I've been using the messenger bag (only carrying case I have at the moment) for my 7700 and can testify toward it being crap.

The threads where the strap attaches to the bag itself have been getting torn up. The way the metal piece seperates in the middle tends to snag them, causing holes and tearing away at the fibers. Ever since day one, it's been impossible to keep the metal pieces upright where the curved side is on top and the flat side stays within the fabric part. The weight of the laptop seems to take care of the rest.

So if you do get a messenger bag, make certain that it doesn't have these same kinds of straps. You'd want something with metal pieces that will stay put no matter what (they shouldn't be curved on one side), and don't seperate due to the weight and snag the fabric.

while its not a messenger bag, the targus citygear LA case is great.

Right now I use the timbuk2 Commute XL, but the 7700 does not fit into the laptop compartment of the bag, only the main compartment. I would get a regular Timbuk2 or Chrome bag and use it in conjunction with a padded sleeve. Those are both good messenger bag companies. Also check out Crumpler. There is a thread in this forum somewhere labeled "7700 Sleeve", check that out too.

I bought a Great Targus Bag from BestBuy for 70$ the other day. The notebook fits in it perfectly and it has a bunch of inside pockets for carrying all the extra stuff! I am very happy with this bag... sturdy......

You could look at two sites:

www.sfbags.com

www.timbuk2.com

I use an sfbags sleeve, and an old Timbuk2 messenger/laptop bag. The bag is four years old and they don't do make them available for customization anymore, but they may still have a bag large enough.

This also is not a messanger bag but its what i just ordered. i dont want to take any chance of breaking my $4500 computer if it gets bumped too hard. Its lookes just like the alienarmor case. The dimensions are supposed to be big enough for the 7700. It will be here monday so i'll let you know how it works.

did i mention it is about $70 cheaper than the alienarmor case

the laptopt armour (aka. alienarmour) cases are some of the best in the market, i know that i have personally witnessed their quality and all i can say is wow.... nicely designed and extremely sturdy.

let us know how the mezzi case goes for you, it is basically a copy of the halliburton zero series case scaled up for alot less. i would be interested to hear your thoughts on it, possibly a review even.

I got my Mezzi case yesterday. Its pretty sweet but not really big enough for the 7700. I ordered the foam padding with it and cant even use it because there is no room. Instead i am using the thin piece of foam that came with my 7700 cut to the size of my case. for now i just lay the foam on top of the laptop to prevent scratches from other things i might have in lid of the case such as pens. the case has sufficiant padding (without the extra foam) to protect your computer as long as its not being kicked around. if this was a regular laptop that would run off of the battery alone then the case would be awesome but there is no room to carry the adapter. I have enough room in the lid to carry my pcmcia wireless card but anything thicker then that probobly will not fit. the case is very sturdy and i love the latches, they even lock.
Mezzi might make a larger case than this and if they do it would definately be worth getting, but for the 7700 the ones probobly a little small. if i can figure out how to post a pict i will.

Here is a larger case:
looks like it would be plenty big for the 7700, adapter and more.

Nice looking bag. You're right, the larger bag would probably work better to cart around the peripheral stuff.
