I fixed the artifacting on my machine (for now)

All I had to do was install ATITool and turn down both core and memory clock speeds. I am now able to play HalfLife and FlightSim w/o the artifacting I was experiencing before.

While I am obviously not happy that I am not getting full value for what I paid for, I am very relieved that I can at least use my system. I REALLY hope this lasts and does not deteriorate further and I hope to be spared some of the other problems I've read about that other 8790 owners suffer from.

Sager is 100% guilty of BAD DESIGN. I might try to take my machine in to a shop that I can trust to see if I can implement a custom cooling solution for the GPU. One thing I wonder about is whetehr any permanent damage has been done to it. Any engineers out there who can comment on this?

Cheers,

CLC

Use a hammer. Demolition Engineer.

just kidding, I don't game or overclock and my 8790 decided to artifact 3 months
after warranty expired. I referred 2 other people to Sager and theirs did the same
thing.
I will be purchasing a new notebook in the next couple of weeks and guess which
manufacturer I will not be purchasing from?

I might be wrong, but Sager isn't completely guilty for it. CLEVO is the guilty as they are the actual people who designed the thing...

Fix?

A month or two ago, my computer artifacted on BF1942 when it got real nice and toasty on my dorm room desk. I never really saw any artifacting again.

However, I got the BF2 demo, and after some time playing the game, the computer would artifact. Sometimes, pressing Fn=F10 removed the artifacting, other times, it just artifacted anyways. However, I think I have come apon a fix.

The only game that gave me artifacts was the BF2 demo. So, I finally installed the new bios, removed the old ATI drivers, and put in the new 8.04's or something like that (the newest ATI drivers from Sager's website). I still got artifacts in the game...

So, I installed the omega drivers. Now, I don't get artifacts. Can it really be a driver issue? This is with nothing over/under clocked.

Today my one year warranty is up. Let's hope that nothing else besides the network adapter goes wrong with my 8790...

CR_STILL, which Omega drivers did you install if I may ask. I am presently using the Sager 8.04 ( latest ones) and have no artifacting.

I download the omegas that are the most recent as of yesterday... 5.4 catalyst, I believe.
