Well im making a decision about my laptop and ive finally finally got it down to 2. An alienware sentia or a Sony S series. im not really gona play games. if i do it will probably only be halo2. other than that dvd's, music, AIM, and internet. im going into college so thats the reason i want something portable. i have one drawback for each of them. The sentia - 12.1'' screen...Sony S series- small battery life. Who reccomends what and why?

i believe that the alienware is a rebranded uniwill. you could the same computer from someone else if you dont mind ditching the alien hood.

Dude, save your money and get an Asus. They have a large range of notebooks for much cheaper than an Alienware and awesome quality. You won't be sacrificing anything.

i have a sentia and although its quite pricey i havent had a single complaint with it, so long as you dont mind a bit of a wait

If you ask me the Sentia is way too much for a notebook with integrated Intel graphics.

alienware is a ripoff

get the ASUS Z63a

i say grab a not rebranded Uniwill 233IIO.

you can pick it up from:
ibuypower.com (look for battalion slim-series)
walmart.com (look for Tatung 12.1")
cyberpowersystem.com (look for XPlorer U3-2000)

I think this one is the Area-51m not with Alienware rebranding and better stuff. Damn Alienware, and they seem real quality.

First off since you have a problem with the smaller screen, how big of a screen do you want?

Secondly, if you want one like say a 15" screen or so, then check out Sony FS series if you really want a Sony screen, or you can listen to every other person on these forums and buy an Asus Z71V from any one of the online retailers.

Since you won't be playing games I really don't think that you need it. I would go with something like an Asus W3V (depending on your budget) or if you like something more portable then check out the Gateway M250 model. Its a 14" widescreen, with the new Sonoma platform, 80 gig hd, 1.86 ghz processor, dvd burner, good battery life, and all for about $1400 with a 3-year plan. Since you're going to college just like me I think its necessary to get a good service plan because no matter what computer you get something will happen to it, that's why its good to go through a real company instead of an online merchant. I know that I will get flamed when someone reads this because they bought their Asus online and they love it, blah, blah, blah, but that's just the way that I am and I feel much better having a plan through Gateway then through www.computersales.com or whatever.

Either way, don't buy an Alienware, it's just a waste of money since you don't game. The Sentia has old hardware and a big price tag and that's just a bad combination.

I think Asus W3V or Z63a is the way to go.

14 inch widescreen, battery life a little better than Sony "S" series.

forgot to add Asus is priced better than both Sony and Alienware.

buy the sony. Do not buy the alienware. sony is better.

I work for BBY and sell notebooks, and I can say that Sony has some really well designed ones. But they are more expensive when compared to HP, Gateway or Dell with the same features. From what people are saying here, it seems Alienware doesn't even make it's own notebooks.
