Fuzzy red screen problem (8890 UXGA)

I've mentioned this before in another thread and said I'd live with it but its becoming more noticable and I'm considering RMAing the laptop (international shipping ).

I what I can only describe as a fuzzy redness on certain shades of grey, red and purple. When the laptop's been off a while it's fine but the redness starts to creep across the screen from right to left when its been on a couple of hours, restarting doesnt help. It also doesnt show the redness on a CRT. I'll post a pic or two when I get my camera back tomorrow.

Problem is I've just started my two week break from college, and my 30 days will have expired by the end of it, is this covered by the 12 month warranty so I can wait until after my break? Or could I order a new 8890 and send this back for a refund when I get the new one (obviously I'd have to be guaranteed a refund for this)?

Anyone else had a similar problem, is this most likely to be the video card or the screen (I'm pretty sure its hardware, the problem is the same in both windows and linux)?

Thanks

Judging from the lack of responses I'd guess this probably isnt a common problem, or my post was just too long . Anyway, I've fixed it, still havent got my camera so I'll do the best I can to explain.

I noticed the severity of the problem changed when I moved the screen backwards and forwards, and I originally thought this was because of the screen flexing, but I started prodding arround at the case and realised that if I pushed down fairly hard on the ']' key area, the problem almost totally disappeared, so I got my screwdriver out.

Under the keyboard, and under the metal panel below it, where the motherboard is exposed, there's a a thick black metal panel to the right of the RAM. There's a screw in the bottom left corner of this panel, and mine was on very tight. I loosened it and the screen problem immediately disappeared. It seems that the screw was on so tight it was causing the motherboard to bend, which probably got worse when it got hot and warped a little. I did some tests and confirmed that the screen fuzziness was directly related to the tightness of this screw, so I left it fairly loose and now the problem's gone.

Just thought I'd post this for anyone else who might stumble across this thread with the same problem in the future, maybe even Sager. Very happy I wont have to RMA my brand new 8890, apologies for the long posts

Good sleuthing!

Of course, your warantee is voided now.

Hey, I won't tell if you don't tell!

Heh, sounds like a loose connection alright... sorry I didn't see this post sooner - I don't hit 'em all anymore, there's just too many.

You ended up doing what I'm sure many of us would have recommended - or Sager may have suggested had you contacted them (and shown you were somewhat technically inclined, at least - which it sounds like you are).

Glad it worked out for you,
