ZV5000 Power Jack

Thread Starter
Anyone know what type of power jack goes in these? The one on my laptop is not making a good connection. The laptop won't start unless a push the power adapter against the side of the jack. When you let go, it shuts down. I think the connection to the motherboard may be loose, because the jack moves back and forth on it. Are they replaceable, or do you have to re-solder them? Any ideas are appreciated.

Yes of course othewise I wouldn't recommend it. I bought from www.laptopjacks.com a jack and it was cheap (not chip...) and the service was quick. Worth trying.

I think it was to ikenfixit, showing some threads he had posted in on the same subject.

Once logged in, go to the Search box, go to advanced, then type in his user name and look around at the posts he's made... He does repairs.

new to site ,have a zv5000 with the same problem ,is the jack hard to replace? i believe it,s the jack because the power adepter works fine when you keep it pushed up to the coumpter ,,,, i was told to go buy a hp media cable and it would work to power up the laptop , by pluging it into the docking port ?

Hard to fix? Depends on your skill level.... read up a few posts, one poster that did it said it was a pain. More than likely you will have to totally disassemble the unit to gain access.

Can you charge thru the docking port? YES, I've read posts that thru the docking cable /docking station you can charge the unit. That is what alot of people do if the don't repair the jack itself.

Well, while it makes life easier:

The replacement fee is $169. + Shipping. Primary shipping method is FedEx 2nd Day, which costs $40. We can also ship with FedEx Ground for $20.

Just curious... How much did ikenfixit quote you?

If your laptop has a media connector on the side, you can get a media cable that accepts your A/C plug and solves your problem forever.
