So, then, do you guys think it's okay if I go w/ just a 1 GB memory stick vs 2x512 memory sticks?
Thanks
1GB is better, give you open slot to upgrade later on.
Sager 3880 can hit 799 memory.
Sagers are clocked higher initially, too.

Gosh...

I dunno, now, I'm getting scared (after browsing through the forums) that 1 GB of memory might not be enough for this game?! Any comments/suggestions about this issue guys? Any testimonials or whatever (about it working w/ 1 GB, and what you thought of its performance w/ 1 gig of RAM?)?
THANKS

Anyone?
I've got a gig of RAM and it works fine for me.

The minimum requirements for the game are not high and with the GPU in the z71, the game should run without a problem.

I don't understand how a game could use 800MB of ram, and isn't anything beyond 60FPS on a LCD worthless? Just curious, try not to rip me too much.

I wanted to know you guys' take on how you guys think it'll performed on a Z71V configured as so (keep in mind that this game's performance on the ASUS will probably decide whether or not I really want to purchase this laptop) :

Processor: Intel Pentium M processor 760 2MB Cache 2.0GHz 533FSB
Hard Drive PATA: Hitachi 60GB/8MB Cache 7200RPM
Memory: 1GB DDR2-4200 (64x8,1x1gb)
Video Adapter: PCI Express Nvidia 6600-128MB

Any ideas/suggestion/whatever guys? I'd really appreciate it mightily. You guys can also give your impressions of how the Battlefield 2 Demo worked, as well.

THANKS ALL!

I fianlly got around to runnin BF2, after a reformat.

Using Moddedw/inf 77.92 drivers

25bots,1000 tickets,1sec Respawn Time, ALL weapons Unlocked
High on all Settings except Geometery and Shadows (put them on medium)
1024x768RES

I was gettin 40fps, no skips after the intually LOad(when all the bots spawn at once)
CPU @ 1.1v @15x
Over all i had a blast
GPU @ 297/545

Running very well here too.

GF driver v77.50.

Ive got BF2 on highest settings throughout AND ON 4x AA at the default resolution with no problems. Plays smooth

I have the 2.13ghz w. 2GB RAM and am using the modified v77.72 nvidia drivers.

I just recently received my Z71V, well today in fact. And i installed BF2, it ran however it automatically had all my settings on low. Im thinking it might be the driver since i havent updated them yet.

1.86ghz GPU (750)
1 GB Ram
5400rpm SATA hdd
driver: 71.13

Should just updating my driver to the latest 77.72 allow me to bump all my settings up to at least medium with good fps?
I had fan problems with that driver (77.72). My fan spun a lot faster than it does normally, and it didn't slow down to a normal speed, even after ending all graphics & CPU intensive programs. There should be a driver included with the game. You might want to try that one instead.
Hmm, Which driver do you use now? And how well does it run for you on stock settings? cause im not ready to overclock anything, lol.

I updated my driver accidently to 76.44, and it ran fairly smooth on medium settings with dynamic shadows, and lighting off.
I am using 80.40 now...working fine so far.
Hmm, i updated to 77.72 and while the bf2 plays great on medium i have found that either the fans got louder than when i first got the laptop or like in rob's case my fans are spinning faster and not returning to normal speed after i stop playing.

Ive also heard that some sager notebooks are having trouble booting up normally with this driver. Anyone else experience any problems with their z71v while running this driver?

I might roll back to the 77.62 or up to the 80.44.. not sure yet
post #37 of 40
I say go up to 80.40...

It seems to run better when I had played guild war over the weekend.

You're right about the 77.72. I did notice that when I was tweaking around it.
Do the latest drivers offer any significance performance gain over the stock drivers? If they're running O.K. why update them?
hmm, ill try the 80.44 tonight, hopefully it solve the fan issue while maintaining my visual performance.

From what ive heard and read, updating your drivers, especially your video drivers can give you a decent performance boost. Updating your drivers will give you huge performance boosts, if you overclock. But thats way over my head... hehe

Has anyone tried to change the sound settings from software to hardware?
The sound in my Z71v went crazy.
