Thanx for the link JuanG

Many Thanx for the link JuanG.Will hopefully get the new drive today and sort it out 2nite after work.No hard feelings to Darth Beavis or anyone else over the pond, just a good crack.Mines a pint or a jug of Bud or Carling xtra cold and a packet of pork scratchings!!will get back on once the change has taken place.Don't seem to see many more people from the UK who have invested in Alienware UK.Just for info, the guys in Ireland where the 7700 was ordered from have been brilliant in sorting things out.I will put the initial tantrum down to being pi**ed that things went ugly after such a short period of time.looking at the other parts of the forum have come up with a lot of people saying that the company possibly use cheap parts.I was under the impression from ordering that the drive itself is a Hitachi product.Having no experience of Hitachi drives i would not know of any reliability problems.can anyone else shed any light on it??

Drive arrived and working

Well, the new drive was picked up from DHL and installed last night and it works again. Is there any reason why it should stick. The reason i ask is because after importing some cd's onto my I-Pod,then changing to CD-ROM the drive stuck again. It reset itself again only after i restarted the computer. This i thought was quite strange, another glitch maybe, but it was fine after this. The drive managed to import 6 audio cd's before the stick.Any comments???

About Darth Beavis

[LOVED YOUR RESPONSE TO THAT YANK.
Nice one for sticking up for the brits.
I have lived in the usa for 5 years now
and being british im always having to defend us.
YANKS THINK THEY ARE A SUPERIOR BEING.
Yet when it comes down to it the average yank isnt as smart or clever as your average brit.
I should know i have hired 100s of them over here.

QUOTE=alien35]"Darth Beavis" or should we say "Butt Head" should get the idea out of his obviously tiny brain that all us brits are tea drinking, bowler hat wearing stereo types and look at problems closer to home.Who's country has the highest percentage of clinically insane/obese population as per the rest of the world ? For some strange reason he also thinks that the rest of the world is some kind of American Colony. How come that, and i quote "You People"can't seem to do anything without the help of us Brits to smooth things over once you mess things up.Now i will go and drink some tea,eat some crumpets, pull up a chair and watch "How the West was won"......Then again, who gives a monkeys!![/quote]

Oooooohhh!!!

That will be the apple cart tipped over then.Stand bye for round two of the anglo British "v" America saga.Good point though, totally with you with that one. What Alienware system do you have,or is it just a case of two penneths worth. As i said though, doesn't seem to many Brits on the site.Maybe the rest of us have not heard that there is an alternative to PC World/Curry's/Dixon's afterall.Doom 3,level where you get the rocket launcher,DOH!!in that much of a hurry to get out of there, forgot to look for it,or just missed it totally.Have to go back and do the level again. Not a nice one,but then again none of them are.No refresh line on Max settings=Good graphics card HHMMMMM!!ATI RADEON X800.Brothers in arms is top notch too.Anyone got any views about how the 7700 handles Chaos Theory. Not installed it as of yet.

I can't disagree that the average American is as dumb as a post. Keep in mind our country is the melting pot of the rejects of the world. With that in mind, I must ask how America managed to become (although it can be argued as to if it still really is) the dominant superpower? Britain had TOTAL dominance of the world and it slipped through its fingers. The United States leads the world (or led the world) when it was a mere two hundred or so years old. That is unheard of. And we are a country of rejects with probably the worst gene pool on the planet. We are also not very well educated and have a myopic vision. But the power and position of the USA cannot be disputed (the future surely can as I think China will continue to rise and stomp the shit out of the USA, Japan, and Europe).

Talisman: What country have you been in for the last five years? Not GB? That should tell you something. Well, GB have us Elizabeth Hurley, so we do owe you a debt of gratitude.

Pork Scratchings

What are Pork Scratchings? A little like the american version of beef jerky but in the form of little hard pieces of pork. They only seem to be eaten after about 6 pints of lager though, which is a little strange. An aquired taste if you can get a taste. There was me thinking this was an Alienware forum,Oh well!!
Spinter Cell:Chaos Theory.Take a look at the effects, none in particular, but "Oh my god"the machine handles it like a dream.Only on the second level at the moment, but nothing puts a smile on your face like.....Silently slicing open the side of a tent with your knife, moving in behind the guard without even a whisper and WHAMMO! broken neck and a knife in the chest...Pure S.A.S style. Not an A10 Warthog in sight and back home in time for the start of the England game.In view of the graphics cards, all 2 of them that you can choose from for the 7700,they will both pick out their own little details. The ATI RADEON x800 is a doozy and handles it all with apparent ease.I must admit that after the first initial hickup with customer services, the guys in Ireland (Alienware UK) have made up for that,I am more than pleased.Humble pie is OK if you are willing to eat it with a side portion of your own words.Later!!

Hope everything goes well for you. Although I didn't have that great of an alienware experience myself. I gave up on complaining about it. The performance is great, when it works... but after 2 years, countless hours on the phone with the csr, and having the laptop shipped back and forth for a total of more than 1/2 a year, I gave up on my laptop and moved on. However my last phone call was with someone who spoke perfect english... which did impress me but that was litterally 1 out of 13 calls. So maybe they are improving? Good luck.

another 2005 thread brought back by Etherealmouse...something odd happening here....
Huh, let's do the time warp again...

Etherealmouse, don't know what your issue is, but if indeed you've sent your machine in multiple times and AW was unable to fix it, the warranty entitles you to an full refund or and exchange for another system...
And please stop bumping 2005 threads...please.
