2GB ram on a 6000 is overkill. I do gaming (limited by x300), video editing with multiple apps open, etc and never get above 60-70% RAM utilization with 1GB. If you're looking to the far distant future I'd consider it, but by that time RAM will be even cheaper.

I'd only get 1Gb. Yeoman's right that 2Gb of RAM on a 6000d is overkill. You won't see enough extra performance (if any) to justify the cost. You really only gain bragging rights.

For some applications, you can make use of 2GB. I write code for a living and use VMware test environments running on my 6000D, each of which likes having at least 512MB of RAM to call it's own. On top of that, I run a medium-sized database which also is hungry for RAM. The 2GB makes a world of difference over just 1GB for me.

I do agree that it's a very situational thing, though. The vast majority of users would have no need for more than 1GB of RAM right now, and wouldn't see much additional performance from it.

Yes, forgot to say that if you use Virtual PCs a lot 2Gb would be good.

Although, I can run Windows 98SE VPC (128Mb RAM), Windows 2000 VPC (300Mb RAM), Firefox and a few Windows Explorer windows on my XP Pro machine on 1Gb without any slowdown.
