half the companies offer intel models
Apple thinks its still 1980 and everyone uses thier own processors.
Apple thinks that Intel can offer them something more than IBM can, which in turn will allow Apple to offer their customers more.

Isn't it painful to type that way? Because I sure as hell know it's painful to read it.

So if apple switches to intel, will windows be able to be run on an apple machine? If so I am very gleefull.
Yes. They won't sell it or support it but they won't stop you from using it. Some developers already have it up in running on their machines. It'll be great for those who develop for both platforms or need to run proprietary software in the x86 version of VPC.

I did not think it was that difficult to understand. He's right though.

Apple switching to Intel processors is a great thing. Windows on an Apple machine....now that's fun

I think it would be better for apple to switch to intel. I think it will give them more sales if you can have a mac computer running windows. Plus there is more compatability with more software. Mac wouldn't have such a small library of software. I know that I am pretty sure I will buy a powerbook once Apple makes the switch. I would love to have a powerbook that runs windows. Im new to all this news on Apple switching so I have a question. Is it definate? If so when is this going to happen?

Once Apple does make this switch I am deffinately buying a powerbook. Once I power it up I will decide If I like OSX. If I dont i just install windows. I can't wait.
Cheers to all of you bi-curiouse people like me! (LOL)

Unless you are being sarcastic, the point is that there is no reason to type like that. Or even talk like that. It's pointless, rediculous, and a pain in the ass for everyone else to have to read.

true kwick7 but...some people type like that on aim and it's hard to keep legible on a forum. So lets settle down. =)

i get the whole urge to abbreviate some stuff, i tend to do the same w/ (see?) terms like ppl and so on. i think the issue can be in using slang, or more extreme versions of abbreviation. i.e.-when i skimmed the post i was like "mac gg intel"? being a gamer i was like, good game? the only time i tend to really hack up words is if i'm texting on my phone. i also only tend to do it here if it's an easily inferrable adaptation and is worth the abbreviation. i.e.-wif=with, but isn't an economical translation, c'mon?-one letter? try the "w/". it's not hip-hop, but it gets the job done in 2 strokes instead of 4 that said, it wasn't a huge issue to parse thru the post imo

CHeaper and faster processors? Damn Apple... where's their business sense? And here they are already making a killing off of standard components...

i'll be happy with Apple when:
-they stop using so much proprietary design features
-a top of the line GPU is NOT ATI 9700 for a Mac
-they add a 2nd mouse button! (read: powerbook touchpad!)
What proprietary features? The motherboard is Apple designed for their processors, but you can use off the shelf PCI cards, HDs, and any USB/Firewire devices...It's no more proprietary than a Dell.

Give it a rest...less than a year ago everyone was drooling like Pavlov's dogs over the 9700. It's still a good card.

There's a reason Macs use one button and, while I wish they would release two button mice I completely agree with the one button thing. I do wish they'd keep the one button mice on the consumer computers and give the pro computers two button mice.

Why do you even bother to post in this forum?

As for the cheaper part, Apple isn't going to lower their prices just because they move to Intel, Apple needs their margins. In the grand scheme of things they really don't sell that many computers.
i know that apple is not any more proprietary than IBM or Dell, because I've been inside the guts of all 3 brands. It don't agree with the practice because it makes rebuilding/replacing some parts more of a chore than it has to be.

As for 9700...yes, excatly...a YEAR AGO it was a good card, whats exactly why i got a laptop with a 9700 when i bought it last summer, fantastic laptop, great graphics for LAST YEAR! Software has evolved, ever since HL2 and the Source engine came out, gaming will never be the same, this new generation of games needs MORE GPU PERFORMANCE which the 9700 can't deliver as well as some of the new PCI cards such as X800 or 6800go.....get a clue!

the 2nd mouse button is even more useful than the fisrt mouse button. it really is, at least for my use. i find myself right clicking a lot more than left clicking when i use applications like firefox (i like to open things in new tabs A LOT!).
