I know absolutely nothing about RAM. All I know is my i9300 only takes DDR2. What kind should I get? I've got 256 right now and It doesen't work well at all.

Also, I hit 4,000 3dMarks (05), will more ram help this alot??

Also, my frame rate is shite.

Thanks!!

Doesn't really matter, as long as it's priced right and is from a reputable company with a good return policy (I like NewEgg).

More RAM will not affect your 3DMark score very much, if at all; however, your system's overall performance will improve substantially.

what about frame rates in games? I get like 10 in BF1942

More RAM will definitely help you there. Get 1-GB minimum.

awesome. Hmm, think a gig will happen to make FarCry run full specs great?? hehe, that would be awesome.

As long as you get 200pin DDR2 PC2-4200 (sometimes still called PC4200 and sometimes rated higher, e.g. 4300) SODIMM modules you will be fine...

1gig is a good amount, 2gig if you are a power user or have money to waste.

EDIT: 256mb will obviously be crippling your system but don't expect to run everything at full res on max detail even with 2gig, once your system has the RAM to let it move how fast depends on the graphics card...

Yeah, it's doing a good job of it!! I can run farcry on medium detail, with slight slowdown for about 3 minutes, then it's fine. So I think I'll be able to jack it up, not to max, but close.

I think it should be 200pin DDR2 PC-4200. At least that is what I installed in my 9300.

Shit, yes, 200 pins for SODIMMs 240 pins for DIMMs. Thanks for that, had better edit original post...

So what are SODIMMs and DIMMs? I think I've found what to order, but I'm a bit low on cash. I'm just gonna add 512mbs transcend from newegg (200 pins), should this be sufficient?

Thanks!!

Small Outline Dual In-line Memory Module, a smaller version of the Dual In-line Memory Module. Used for Laptops and some SFF computers.
