Just got 2.0ghz I6000D

Thread Starter
I've been putting off a laptop upgrade for years and I finally pulled the trigger.
My previous laptop was a 200mhz "Gateway 2000" with a 3gig HD and 128mb of ram. It still works and the battery holds a 2 hour charge, but obviously its slow as hell.

I just got my Inspiron 6000D and decided to get exactly what I wanted.

Here are the specs:
2.0ghz 2mb cache Pentium M Sonoma
1gig (512x2) DDR2
60gig 5400rpm HD
128mb ATI X300
WXGA
Intel Pro Wireless A/B/G
8x DVD+/-RW

I wanted something that I can hopefully have for many years. I do some light gaming, but mostly just run general apps and burn DVDs. I am also using this as a desktop replacement.

I am incredibly happy with the service provided by Dell and how fast I got it. It was at my door 15 days before they said it should even be shipped. This laptop does everything I need it to with ease.

I got the 6 cell battery becuase I don't use battery power much, but using Centrino Hardware Control, battery life is quite good with undervolting. The fan barely ever comes on.

Apparently you aren't frantically searching for help or an answer to an apparently-life-threatening-but-easily-solved question. Good for you.

But yeah--you have probably noticed a bit of a difference in the performance of your new machine in comparison to your previous laptop.

The i6000D's got just a bit more oomph.

Although I have no idea why you got A/B/G for your wireless card. Who uses A, anyway?

Actually, it's funny that you should mention that. There have been a few users in the past who have stumbled upon inherently defective A/B/G wireless cards.

Albeit rarely, these cards have been known to disrupt pacemakers, allow your neighbor's toaster to access your private phone conversations, reintroduce your dog's peanut butter allergies, instantly transform your coffee from regular to decaf, switch all TV news stations to Jerry Springer re-runs, cause the implosion/explosion of the sun, and/or allow superintelligent dinosaurs to emerge from the earth's core and significantly reduce the amount of oxygen-breathing life forms.

And in case you were wondering, it will also cause time to become a cube with four sides, not a pyramid with the diameter of pi.

But I could be wrong.

no, you're right, I saw it on an Oprah special...

and congrats on the new notebook? How do you liek it's size? Is it bulky, too big, how is it?

My system is similar and I really like it.

Well, except for this piece-of-s**t Sony DW-D56a (Lite-on) DVD+/-RW.

I also sadly opted for the intel A/B/G option, however wish i got the Dell version as this card is a pile of $hit. After a lot of research i manage to get it to work properly as it kept cutting out - solution was I had to increase its power from the driver settings - just to have the centrino sticker!

I also use Centrino Harware Control - one of the best apps you can get. You can manage you processor voltage and overclock your GPU with it.... do a google for it - very easy to use. From my 6cell I get 4hours battery life with my undervolted 1.73 processor.

I use it to and it works great!

Centrino is an Intel "platform"...as in specific parts made to work together. In the case of Centrino it consists of a Pentium-M processor (not Celeron M), 855 or 915 centrino chipsets and an Intel wireless mini-pci card. If you have all 3 of those you can put the Centrino sticker on the laptop.

So it is, darksaber, so it is...I was just trying to get the faithful to crowd atop tall buildings with signs reading "Take me to a better world"...
