ok, well anyway heres the scenario
Dell insperion 8600 now has no drivers for batteries and under device manager its listed as a Standard PC under "Computer"
How do i get this to realize its a laptop and needs battery support and the like
Dell wants me to reinstall after backing up
Lol Riiight - for One (or two maybe) drivers? i think not
situation is HAL.dll got corrupted so i made a new one but its using the standard PC driver
Anyone got ideas??

wow clearly you somehow messed up the system you might want to consider a system restore (assuming you didnt disable it) or heck even a reformat even though most dread it.

i dont think its that severe, i really only need to know what driver your device manager is using for the +computer section, so i can tell it to use that
i think that will clear it up,
or a stupid XP SP2 disc which system check doesnt want to accept :P

does the battery even work at all if you unplug it or does the system just turn off?

no it works fine, but it thinks its on AC...
it had a computer listed as a advanced configuration and power interface, and had batteries listed, but now under the device manager its listed as a standard PC and has no batteries listed and wont install them with hardware..
really weird, i dont think reinstalling windows would help either because when i installed a fresh HAL.dll it went trough and reinstalled all the hardware, and this is where the standard PC came from.. so im worried if i reinstall ill just be at the same place as i am now

Have you tried running System File checker?

yes, but everytime i run it, it asks for XP home ed SP2 disc- i stick in dell and it says its not the right cd :P
i ended up doing a repair install and everythings fine now..
