How durable is the power jack in the Inspirion 9300?

I got a Toshiba $500 cheapie last Thanksgiving and I've had to send it in twice already because female jack seems to get looser and looser. I usually work with the laptop on my lap and I guess my leg keeps rubbing it. The work orders said they replaced the motherboard each time. I've read the jack is connected to the mb a lot these days.

Has anyone had this problem? If so how have you solved it? Is the jack on the I9300 solid? I'm going to order one and I'm curious if this will be a problem and maybe I can get something to help like a laptop desk or a longer warranty.

My jack is fine. No issues. I would say the jack is much like the comic character the Tick: It is nigh invulnerable...

This problem is irrelevant -- you can't work with the 9300 on your lap.

5 minutes is about as much as I can do but sitting on a normal office chair, if it were something lower, probably doable.

err When Im feeling really lazy and have a few days off (I only work 7 days a fortnight-12hr shifts) I can lay in bed and play warcraft3 or css for hours on end. (all day today!) soooo lazy...

edit* actually, with the way I lay, the laptop is more on my groin. Hope Im still able to have kids :-0

Supposedly that heat can cause lower counts for up to 3 months. If you aren't planning on kids any time in the near future, fry on.

Power jack is located on the back of the laptop, and seems very sturdy to me. It'd be pretty hard to touch inadvertently during use. As for using it on your lap, I have yet to use it on a desk, depending on how long your legs are, I can balance the very back of the unit on my knees and thighs, and not have to worry about potential lower "counts"

Thanks!

I guess it gets hot. The Toshiba I currently has doesn't get too bad. Maybe I can find a laptop desk that will help with the heat and makes sure I'm not wacking the power jack around.

We went to High Point, NC and got a great deal on a Palliser leather sectional with recliners. That's where I'll be most of the time with the laptop on my lap.

Meh, the heat only bothers me if I'm gaming and I just toss a notepad or something between the laptop and me.

I use my 9300 exclusivly on my lap for hours at a time. I have had no problems. I do use a coolpad.

I had a problem with the original power jack for 9300, sent it back and got another one. I was getting an error indicating that the laptop was not getting enough power. The only issues I have with the power pack is that it is so big and the cord could be longer.

Agreed, the cord is way too short and since it isn't the standard two pronged cable you can't extend it easily =/ I think i'm gonna get a replacement wall -> converter cord, then cut it in half and extend it....
