Best Buy Warranty Repair

Was wondering how it's gonna work if i go back to best buy for warranty repairs? I have their 3 yr extended warranty plan and i know my laptop overheats under high cpu usage (running games/morpheus/anything that eats up juice). Last time i went in for the cracked hinge problem, they didn't even open my box to take a look at it, stating that they have to send it to the repair facility and they would take a look. Any insights/suggestions?

About the most they can do is replace a hard drive or add RAM to a laptop. Anything else and they just don't have the parts, so they have to send it in.

I had a gateway that i baught 4months ago and it broke down 4 times in 4 months!! grr i was mad! they had to send it away each time ( the state button kept breaking caving in) today they upgradded me ( over 300 more in value and massive bigger! laptop for free!)
also they would give me a loaner laptop when I dropped mine off. You have to ask for the loaner( from a manager) I was very unhappy with the gateway and they did make it right
I went from having a laptop that was
80gb to a 100gb
P4 to a AMD 64
double dvd burner
anyways they did me right i think lol

Couple weeks ago I was talking to one of their (BB) sales people there and they dont do the repairs but do pay for it if you get the extra warranty. BB isnt in the repair business itself. They just supply extra warranties to cover failures. According to the salesperson they send it in at their cost and let the Manufacturer's designated repair shop/people do the work.

Considering how BB is its probably best this way. They are not repair experts and leave the job to those that are, like the manufacturer, or the manufacturer's designated repair shop. PC Manufacturers generally dont like it when other noncertified repair people mess around with their systems. It can void the warranty.

The downside to using something like BB is that you are without a laptop for however long it takes to repair. Of course if you took it any pc shop you'd be without it as well so not much difference there. Not that many shops work on laptops anyway but as the industry keeps making laptops more repair friendly (like desktops) this will change.

I remember one time i brought in my emachine 6810 for the infamous hinge crack repair and they said i wouldn't get a loaner laptop..only if i had the more expensive warranty plan though.

Most places don't have a "loaner" policy at all... 90% of laptop repairs will be done off site, usually sent to the manufacturer within their warranty or a used parts warehouse of sorts under extended warranty... yes, under extended warranties they do not have to use new parts since new parts may not be available.
