So I was wondering, is there a way to download the autorecover parition on the stock HD that comes with the unit?

No way, it's ~4 gB and specific to your model/machine. But, check this out:

I am hoping to image that partition and burn the image on a DVDr. Just as a back up.

Oh and the dell diagnostics partition as well.

Does the partition on Hard Disk also apply to the Latitude line of laptops?
That would just plain suck!
Thanks!

Better check the link I provided above. It's not as easy to do as you may think.

From what I've read on these forums, yes.

Im not really that worried about the restore partition as I am about the diagnostics utility. The restore partition seems to be just an image of the user partition at delivery from dell. I wouldnt want that anyway since there is always so much crap on it. I will probably just burn the OS cd using the dell utility and wipe out the restore partition and than just reinstall using either that OS CD or my own XP Pro. I am going to read up a bit more on the diagnostics utility tho.

Edit: It looks like the diagnostic utility partition is only 50MB, so I will probablyl just leave it, 50MB is no big deal. And it looks like all the restore partition is, is a ghost image with a few batch files to restore that image. So i will either image that partition before wiping it or I will just make sure to save that image. I guess I will find out when I get my 700m next weekend.

I kept the diagnostic and deleted the restore.

Good thread...how do you find the restore partition? What would it be called or named in, say, PartitionMagic? I have a partition for OS and other programs...it is the first/C drive and there is approx. 4 gb of space being taken by something unaccountable. I just want to delete it.
As stated above, the restore is the ~4 GB part and the diagnostic is ~50 MB.

You'll need to reinstall everything--OS, drivers, software...

Quick solution (20 minutes to 1 hour): Make an image of your XP OS part with Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image. Then deleted the Dell parts, reformat and restore the image.

Use Norton Partion Magic I think its called? And its easy to delete the partition without having to reinstall windows.
