8890 Audio

I've been reading a few posts about the poor audio quality on the 8890. I started looking at some solutions, but I'm not sure what will really work well for gaming and multimedia. I did check out the Echo products, as well as the Yamaha USB reciever, apparently Hercules has an external usb 5.1 soundcard but I cant find any reviews. Does anyone have any suggestions so I can spruce up the 8890 I intend to buy?

Check out the Creative Extigy 5.1 external, it's the highest quality audio you can get with the 8890, but only USB 1.0 compatible. They (creative) also makes a USB 2.0 compatible, not quite as high quality, but what are you using it for? Music editing, mp3 listening won't notice the difference.

The Extigy has a $50 rebate on it, and is about $100 - the USB 2.0 NX is about $80

I intend to use my laptop for a lot of junk actually, gaming, 3d modeling, graphic design and video production. But I also need something small and or ultra portable because I'm in the middle of a desert, and I sometimes have to pick up and move on short notice.
