Both are awesome peices of hardware! If this is for a desktop/Dock setup definitely get the MX1000. Its very responsive and truely a gamers mouse. This might not be important to some people but it just means it doesn't loose its signal or anything. Sometimes wireless mice have a little lag but this one doesn't.

I also have the portable mouse, this is perfect for travel. It may not be good if you want to use it as a dock mouse all of the time, but if you want to take it somewhere its the perfect one! I bought it for about $70 at staples when it was first out but I think you can get them cheaper now.

If you plan on doing mostly as a docking station get the MX1000 for comfort, otherwise get the travel mouse.

BTW: They are both very well built and will last a long while!

Can't say anything bad about my MX1000, but then again, my rig is a DTR (it'll leave the notebook stand about once a month...maybe). I saw another post advsing a smaller USB receiver from another Logitech model works for the MX1000, thus making it more palatable for mobility's sake. This baby holds a charge for a LONG time.

btw i use mine daily and i just replaced the batteries after 5 monthes...

I have the MX1000 and I am very happy with it. I would love to have a portable USB dongle though. I mainly use it on my desktop and then when I go on the road I carry around the MX500 (or whatever that Logitech gaming mouse was). I will probably pick up the new corded mouse soon as my MX500 is getting very worn.

Again, I would love to have a small portable dongle for my MX1000. If you do know of one that is compatible, please post it here!

Thanks!

If you're into gaming I think the MX518 is the gamers choice - due to the cord....

is the scroll feature of the v500 easy to get used to and worth the change from the regular scroll function of normal mouses?

v500...

i just got one, so i need to install it first. i will let you know, also this is my first notebook,do i have to disable the touchpad first then install the software or not? sorry for not answering your question but i will try to later steve.

I actually never install the mouse software, so I can't be 100% sure. However, I don't think there will be a driver conflict between the two. Without the mouse software, I've used a mouse with the touch pad enabled with no problem.

You can use dongles from the MediaPlay mouse with the MX1000. It costs about $18 with shipping from Logitech though (for just the dongle), though if you already have a MediaPlay mouse, you can call in for a replacement dongle if something is wrong with the one you have.

I think the Click! mouse uses the same dongle, but I haven't tested it. Same with the mini mice, not sure if their dongles are compatible.

You have to sync the dongle and the MX1000 to get it work, just like other mice. Press the connect button on both devices.

I use the MX900 which isnt too far off, and all I can say is WOW. Nice mouse there. tha reason I didnt go a 1000 was due to the package deal I got with that keyboard/mouse pairing. 1000 from what I read is supposed to be on the order of 4X more precise for gaming and CAD. I m having a ball with my 900, and have no complaints.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but one thing BAD about the MX1000 Laser mouse is that it uses a special battery from Logitech (I'm pretty sure it was lithium ion? I forget...). This battery is NOT sold separately from Logitech, so if the battery ever fails you, you must buy a whole new mouse.

Granted, I've never heard of the battery dying (yet)

True, but the battery is rated to last for a full 500 charge cycles--meaning, 500 cycles from completely drained to completely charged. Since I've had mine, a full charge lasts approx. 10 - 12 days. So, even if avg. usage time equals "only" one week, that equals 500 weeks of usage. Not saying the battery WILL last that long, but I've never had problems w/ Logitech when it comes to hardware replacement in the event it last significantly shorter than that. Hell, I can't see many people who would spend that much on a mouse using it for more than 2 - 3 years max. anyway.

I just ordered the MX1000 a couple days ago.If the battery fails I think theres a warranty for it? Or doesnt the warranty apply for it? And its so rare that batteries like that fail. And 500 weeks is more than enough

I just looked and mine are standard rechargeable AA size batteries. I suppose if mine ever fail, any rechargeable batt would work so long as they are able to be charged by the host device (mouse)
