I have my old Gateway lappy in my business office downstairs. It's my naughty peeper. I wrecklessly surf the web on that one with no protection. It's seen a few new OS installations in it's day.
(Gotta love W2k.)
It's a 1066 w 512MB and 20GB HDD. Serves me pretty damn well for just being a "clunker". It's hard LANed into the cable modem, so it stays put. I keep it on all day long playing web radio. I do shut it off when the day's done.
I hit some sites throughout the day, despite greasy fingers from working on carburetors and what have you. It gets metal dust on it and everything! I just hit it with the compressor, and she keeps on going!
There's the I9200 that I treat with great care, but use the most. I'll wash my hands even if just did ten minutes ago before I crack open the plushy aluminum case I keep her in! (I'll relax about the same time it's paid off.
It's really nice to have a crappy computer you don't have to worry about along with your nice one. You can abuse one, and really enjoy the other. You get to appreciate BOTH.
Then there's the old family desktop in the upstairs office/spare room. This is always on. 64 Athalon running W2kPro and two HDDs totaling 80 GB. It has Norton AV on it, but rarely sees the web.
I download data -mostly photos, avi.s, and pdf.s into it, and it pretty much sits there on standby.
But now that I'm beginning to max out my I9200 HDD (40 GB) with all sorts of crap that I don't really want to throw out, I'll get a wireless card for the desktop so I can network them (just the unpornified I9200). Then it'll be a data base for all my shit. Besides, the printer's in that room, etc.
I have a sneaking suspiscion you won't get as much as you're hoping for from the sale of your desktop.
