To be honest, your story makes me want to think about looking into the XPS 420 which I would upgrade the PSU of and GPU of after purchase (since right now PCIe 2.0 seems really useless anyway, making my X38 concerns useless)

I had an XPS 420 for a couple of days. My only problem with it was, I had too many parts I wanted to add. It would definitely be a great system to upgrade. The default power supply was my main problem with it. I did not want to take the time to upgrade that. It can be done though. There is a Dell tech member here who says that it can be done.

Definitely get any XPS from the outlet.

why get a desktop? I'm done with desktops. I will forever have a laptop from here on out. If anything a nice lappy with a nice external lcd. That new Alienware 15 inch lappy with the 8800MGTX is damn tempting

I am thinking the same thing from this point on. My XPS 720 is my last desktop. Yes, the new Alienware is super.

What I like about desktops is the ability to upgrade continuously (for the most part) without discarding already purchased systems, or only making back a small fraction of what was paid in the first place. In addition, if you work with desktops you will generally always be on top of the technology and it will last longer being stronger for the same money.

Not to say laptops don't hold benefits, but I think I'd rather buy a cheaper mobile laptop for my on the go tasks and then have a desktop for gaming. Not like I don't' game in the same spot every time anyway.

Also Larry, if I do go the route of the XPS, it'll definitely be the outlet, gotta love that place

I like desktops, just for the fact that I can have a faster system at more than half the cost of a similar laptop.

Though I do love my lappy, but I'll always have a desktop.

Have fun doughy. Stripping wallpaper isn't that bad but plaster makes the biggest mess possible. Last time I did that the plaster dust was insane. I thought I would never get rid of it all. I ended upp taking a box fan and pointing out the window to create a sorta vaccum out the house. Good Luck
