Well that put a downer to my weekend:

My friend didn't get the visa she needs

She says there's another small chance by going to another embassy or something (I didn't quite understand), but it doesn't look good.

Looks like I'll be making plans to head over there myself.

Why's it so f#$king difficult to get into Canada? I mean, we let almost everyone else in! lol

I have been saying for years the Bears can destroy anyones career. We get good guys and ruin them then trade guys who do very well elsewhere. Doug Flutie, Jim Harbough, Thomas Jones, Cedric Benson, Bernard Barrian. We are currently trying to destroy Orlando Pace's chances for the Hall of Fame. I am convinced if we had drafted Payton Manning even he would of washed out.

We have drafted at least 3 1st round running backs who washed out for us.

It sounds like the Texas Rangers in baseball. They are basically the supplier of talent elsewhere, while being mediocre or worse.

Old fashioned, meaning it's rarely an option any more. The paperwork and hassle involved is even worse. My father married a Filipino (in her country, as she wasn't allowed into Canada), and only then, after many trips to the embassy, and a full 3" thick envelope of papers, from everything to 5 year old e-mails showing the relationship, and a full 2 years later, was she allowed into the country. They've been married now almost 5 years, and she is just now working on getting her citizenship. So no, marriage probably isn't an option.

On the other hand, it may be easier for me to move there and marry, given my german citizenship, and that would help her get her german citizenship, at which point it would be easier to come to Canada. Still a hell of a hassle, though.
Yeah, who knew? Especially with the image of being the most multicultural country.
You'd likely have no problem, as it's easy to get into Canada from the states... just talk about hockey to the border guard lol
That's the main point. I think it was many things that stacked up against us:

1) She Ukrainian, a country known for people trying to leave / find better opportunities
2) She's gorgeous, young, and single
3) She has few ties to keep her in Germany or Ukraine
4) She wants to visit a single, male "friend"

I'm sure if you were the person looking at the application, it would raise your eyebrows as well lol

Oh well... looks like I'll be planning to go over. But at least that gives me a chance to stop in London again to see a friend, and see my family in Berlin, as well as my other friend (who is single, beautiful and Russian, so would also have problems coming to visit) lol

Yep. I always thought, regardless of the country of origin, if you can show the return flight ticket with a reasonable stay, it can be done.

Yeah, same deal. A return ticket proves nothing, and plus it would be a serious waste of cash to buy a ticket before knowing you have a visa to get into the country. I've done that before myself; bought a return ticket with no intent of using the return portion, mainly because it was cheaper than one-way ol
