Typing on my resurrected Alienware m5500 using Ubuntu. True, I have yet to get a dedicated gpu for it, but at least the integrated gpu still works.

I tried Ubuntu when I got my Studio only because i hated Vista but I soon put Win7 on it. Ubuntu was different and all the hardware was detected though, its certainly coming along where hardware support is concerned.

Yeah, I have Win 7 on my XPS Studio, which I really love. This old Pentium M m5500 was having a difficult time with it (sound card & gpu) so I opted to install Ubuntu on it and it works great. Only utilizing 17% of my 2GB RAM with a couple of programs open and no more heat issues.

I know, I was thinking that Win 7 would be okay. I just couldn't get the O/S to even recognize the sound card I tried everything possible, but it was a no go, so I started to put XP back on and what do you know? everything worked. I was tired of XP and since I have the Windows on the other laptop I thought I'd go back to Linux to keep my skills up with compiling and command line.
