They call that the "local programming improvement fee" here, which is a couple bucks a month on the cable and satellite subscribers bills. But it doesn't really improve anything, it just pads the pockets of the major networks who've already been bailed out by the government. I canceled my cable as soon as that fee showed up. Now they're talking about a "fee for carriage" which the local stations (read: the major networks) want to charge the cable companies for broadcasting their "free" OTA stations on cable. If that happens, the cable providers will just pass it on to the customers like every other fee. And all this talk about local programming is stupid, because there is very little left. Everything is mainly US shows anyways.
Yes, it's a mess, and I'm glad I'm no longer a part of it. I've got enough headaches lol
Yes, me especially because everything online comes from the US, and is usually blocked to Canadians as well. No Hulu for us.
Is that video blocked in Germany? That's weird, I thought Youtube was available everywhere (or maybe it's that other stupid embedded site)
