When you have time and recovered from your jet lag, pop over DTF. I am updating it with latest mobo from CeBIT.

pulled the trigger on the 8120. Gonna have to build a cooler for it I think. Let's see, gonna need a few fans, some wire, some plexiglass, a DC adapter, some switches, couple of screws.

Also gonna need to pick up some new HDDs, The egg has the fujitsu 500 GB 7200 drive for $89 after a $10 rebate, and I have 2 more bays to fill (was gonna cost $30 more per drive to add them point of sale).

Still a...well I'm not sure if right now it's a pre-order or a back-order (don't know if they've actually shipped any yet)...Mike tells me Sager are starting to ship this round of orders tomorrow, so may get it next week may get it next month.

RJtech has Clevo offering some of their 17" models with the 5870 so if mine doesn't ship out this week and they start offering the 5870 XFire in the 8120 before it does ship, I think I'll have them switch it out. All the comparison's I'm seeing so far put the 5870 single over the 285M single, plus the RADEON has DX11 support (for what it's worth in the next several months before any game comes out that actually uses it).

Here's what I'm thinking for the cooler 18"x12" acrylic plastic. Three 50mm fans connected to an old 12V DC converter with on/off switches. Gonna need some help with the maths and fan selection to figure if any of the old DC converters I have will give enough juice but I have an engineer bro-in-law to help with that.

EDIT: you know I was just thinking do you guys think it would be better to just have the three fans blowing into the existing fans to provide extra air flow or add more fans to give constant air flow to the entire underside and insert spacers to allow for air to excape?

Good afternoon, all. A nice day here. I walked the puppy.

Very cool, DAF.

doug I do not think you want to line up the fans? If the fans on the bottom are intake. I think you would want to not line up so the air you move would #1 provide fresh cool air to the notebooks intake. #2 to blow on the underside doing some actual cooling to the underside?

But I am no thermal engineer.

Theoretically, I think placing the fans directly underneath the existing intake fans (assuming the vents on the bottom suck in air and not blow air out) should increase air flow through them by providing a greater supply of air than it would otherwise get.

Placing them under other parts of the system that don't have fans would help cool down the rest of the notebook but I don't know if there's anything that that provides a substantial heat output in those areas.

My idea is to definitely place them under the existing intake vents I just don't know if adding more fans in other places would be worthwhile.

I will be putting up some pics and info regarding notebook coolers from CeBIT hopefully soon. Still having a lot of pics to sort through for PC, notebooks and peripheries yet.

Running two 1200cfm fans in series will still be 1200cfm? They just move the same air? And yes running parallel (offset) will not increase cfm's but it will help dissipate heat from the outer case. Which I am uncertain of how efficient/effective/necessary it would be but since it is just an added effect of the primary, to provide fresh/cooler air to the intake. Nothing lost so even insignificant gain is at zero cost.

If you line up you would need neutral pressure? How would you maintain if intake varies based on heat? Intake on full all the time? Back to being in series. 6 1200cfm fans in a tube will move 1200cfm? If not lined up you could exceed the cfm of the intake.

These are just thoughts I could be way off?

Good evening, DRT. I did a weight workout tonight. We also had a nice Italian diner.

I have noticed that lately. Very few are repping and posting. I hope you are having a good evening. Relaxing here in my usual way.

It was mearly "meh". Not only do I have to fill in for a coworker who starts at 7am, but I can't work in my office, meaning I lose use of my PC and flatscreen, and instead work on the "backup" PC which is a PII running Windows 2000 and IE6

MY excuse is just being zonked every day this week, having to get up so early, then working late (5pm at the least every day)
