I wasn't exactly expecting a flame war... sarcasm and tongue in cheek comments are hard to convey with a keyboard. I ended on that note expecting one of two things, a total newbie bashing or the positive replys and explanations like the several I got.

I guess being a newbie to this forum, I am still testing the water and so far it seems to be a good place to take a swim.

I've been a member of many a forum where the maturity level of the forum as a whole isn't very high and it's a waste of time to try to get help or help others. My first impressions of this place are good. I guess I'll go ahead and stick around so everyone here can benefit from my vast knowledge and experience(sarcasm incase you couldn't tell )

Hopefully that part wasn't sarcastic. This place overall is very good, I've learned quite a bit. I know before I rep anyone new here that I read their past posts and determine if they deserve + or - rep. I don't tend to rep anyone indiscriminately b/c I can give someone 5 or so dots with a single rep. (Oh and that comment about giving - rep was halfway joking. At one time someone here wanted many red dots.)

The rep doesn't mean anything to me, but trying to get to the next level and having fun in the process makes me continue. So welcome, have a good time, and don't tick off the Wookiee (or the Smurf )!

I do prefer the color red over green, so I might have to start working on my negative rep. What about black dots, who do I have to kill around here to get some of those?

Heck if you really want red lemme know and I'll neg ya repeatedly. The black dots come from getting your rep turned off by a mod/admin.

Hmmm.. if negative rep is what you desire, you should head over to the Alienware forum and say something negative about their computers.

...good one Col. Yes, the alienware forum is a good one to change colour. Been sometime since we've seen a flame war there...not that we are prodding anyone to do it or anything like that....

Pardon my interruption, but what exactly goes on here? Is it just a place to get a ton of rep points? What's the benefit of that anyway? Just wondering on how the whole rep system works, I'll be glad to join in though.

Yes it is a place to get positive rep. It is basically give and take. It is also a place to have fun (thanks Albstrama) by giving rep to noobs. I will rep you later tonight.

Ah, so you just click below the person's name on one of his/hers posts and click "Add to ____'s reputation," then select positive, type a note, and that's it? Sounds simple enough.

Yes, that is it basically. If you have less than 100 posts, the rep means nothing. It shows up a gray under your User CP. Don't forget to leave your username. That way you can get repped back.
