You got a Sanyo screen? The only models I had heard of being put into the M1710 were Samsung, LG Phillips, and Sharp. Go to the device manager and select the plug and play monitor properties. Now go to the details tab and in the drop down box there select 'Hardware Ids'. It should say
Monitor/SEC5557 for one of the Samsung displays
Monitor/LPL0000 for the LG display.. etc..
The Samsung is the least desirable (or so it seems by the majority rule here) because of light leakage, dark corners, inconsistant backlighting, sparkles (grainy appearance against a bright background) and poor color reproduction.
The Sharp display is supposedly a step above the Sammie, with a better contrast ratio, more accurate color reproduction, and fairly consistant backlighting from top to bottom.
The LG displays seem to be a NBF favorite, as they portray the best brightness, color reproduction, backlighting... the whole 9 yards really. I have only recieved Samsung replacements for my E1705 so I couldn't really promise you that the others are better. Aside from having the backlight a little uneven on mine, I find the overall quality of this Samsung SEC5557 to be of rather impeccable quality. It had a bit of the sparkle effect when I first fired it up, but that seems to have faded a bit since. Anyway, post what your monitors model number is here so we can get a better idea of which one you recieved.
