I just picked up Battlefield 2 and it said my drivers were outdated...Im wondering if its because the program doesnt realize its a laptop graphics chipset or if new drivers were released for it. Does anyone know?? Thanks

BF2 requires updated nvidia drivers, 77.40+ I believe. I grabbed the latest 77.72's from nVidia download site and added my card to the .inf file and it installed no problem. You can also drop in j.-"santa"-clausse's inf info but follow his directions in his tweak guide on his link above.

Here's the nVidia download link:

Does it give a new Bios for the 6800Go or never?What are you think?
Or had anybody flash this Card.My bios for my 7700 is 1.0.0.4.But the Video Bios is the same..
Do you understand?
post #5 of 25
I don't think the go6800 is flashable, er at least I haven't found any updated bios or info on flashing it.

I am now able to play battlefield offline for a decent amount of time before i get lockups/looping sound. I cannot play online for more then 1 minute before i get the lockups though.

cool.

GodFather: I followed some directions somebody posted a while back but I can't find them anymore. But I'll try to sum it up here.

Open your nv4_disp.inf file for editting and do the following:

1. Delete everything between [NVIDIA.Mfg] and [ControlFlags] (but don't delete [ControlFlags] )

2. cut and paste the following in it's place:

%NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.1% = nv4, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00C8&SUBSYS_09001558
%NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.2% = nv4, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00C8&SUBSYS_09011558
%NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.3% = nv4, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00C8&SUBSYS_09021558
%NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.4% = nv4, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00C8&SUBSYS_09031558
%NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.5% = nv4, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00C8&SUBSYS_09041558
%NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.6% = nv4, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00C8&SUBSYS_07001558
%NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.7% = nv4, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00C8&SUBSYS_07011558
%NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.8% = nv4, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00C8&SUBSYS_07021558
%NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.9% = nv4, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00C8&SUBSYS_07031558
%NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.A% = nv4, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00C8&SUBSYS_07041558
%NVIDIA_Win2KDualView% = nvDual, DISPLAY\nvWin2kDualView
%NVIDIA_MultiView% = nvDual, DISPLAY\nvMultiView

3. Scroll all the way down to [Strings] and delete everything below it (everything).
4. cut and paste in the following under the [Strings] section:

; Non-Localizable Strings
REG_SZ = 0x00000000
REG_MULTI_SZ = 0x00010000
REG_EXPAND_SZ = 0x00020000
REG_BINARY = 0x00000001
REG_DWORD = 0x00010001
REG_SZ_APPEND = 0x00010008

; Localizable Strings
NVIDIA = "NVIDIA"
NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800"
NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.2 = "NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 "
NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.3 = "NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 "
NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.4 = "NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 "
NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.5 = "NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 "
NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.6 = "NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 "
NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.7 = "NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 "
NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.8 = "NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 "
NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.9 = "NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 "
NVIDIA_NV41.DEV_00C8.A = "NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 "
DiskID1 = "NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Driver Library Installation Disk 1"
DiskID2 = "NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Driver Library Installation Disk 2"
DiskID3 = "NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Driver Library Installation Disk 3"
DiskID4 = "NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Driver Library Installation Disk 4"
DiskID5 = "NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Driver Library Installation Disk 5"
NVSVC.name = "NVIDIA Display Driver Service"
NVSVC.desc = "Provides system and desktop level support to the NVIDIA display driver"
NVUninstall.desc = "NVIDIA Display Driver"

-------

This method works for any release so I made a .txt file that I can open and grab this when I need to edit the nv4_disp.inf file.

Pay attention too to what you have running when you fire up BF2. The manual says something about tweaking performance, ie. shutting down un-needed processes and apps prior to running. It's a good idea as this is a pretty demanding game. I keep getting booted from servers at the PunkBaster update time because I keep forgetting to turn off my firewall prior to game-on.

Install the 77.72 or 77.77 drivers from nVidia and play BF2.

...i dont think its a big problem at least for me im using some older omega drivers and it tells me that and it runs perfectly fine. except for some lighting problems around vehicles nothing i cant get over.........im running it fine with a 3.0ghz 1gb and original 6800

Try to turn off darkstar theme manager, it can be a source of probs too.
post #13 of 25
....turn off all themes for that matter i had a bunch of problems with games and FPS and the like and i turned everything off and BAM everything is perfect now

Ok battlefield 2 sucks i have a older desktop that has a Geforce4200 Ti and stupid thing plays doom pretty well but Battlefield to cant argh this sucks.
post #15 of 25
that's why you got your laptop right?

I ran Dark Star and BF2 runs fine on mine with it.

the driver version may not be "required to run," Fartman, but if he's having trouble getting it going then that's the first thing I'd try to update.

I had problems installing mine using the DVD/RW primary drive so I stuck the PCDVD in the CDRW/DVD secondary drive and it installed no problem. It does seem to be a pretty quirky game.

Has anybody else had a problem running it in Single Player without being connected to the internet to logon to the account server?

laptopvideo2go.com has the all-important inf file if you don't want to go through the steps of ediiting the nv4_disp.inf file. i just downloaded the drivers from nvidia, extracted to a folder and copied the inf file to the folder. replaced the existing one, ran setup, rebooted. then i checked the driver version in the nVidia display properties, made sure it was a new(ish) version; 77.30.

you can run single player "offline", not needing to connect. i created an offline account by unplugging my network cable, starting BF2, creating a new profile, set up keymapping, etc. now when i start BF2 i have two accounts listed; one offline another online.

the GF4 cards don't support the new version of a dll extension called "Shader". doom3 doesn't use this directx feature, bf2 does.

I've been having trouble too with the drivers, and even though I downloaded the version 77.3 from Alienware ftp, it says its been upgraded (version as 77.3) but it seems like its actually still on the old version.

I want to try to install j.clausse's driver, but will this breach the warranty? (sorry for nooby question)

HAHA, no, updating a driver won't void the warranty.

thanks to everyone for the help on installing the latest forceware drivers on my 7700...I finally got everything working..and its like I have a new laptop..games run flawless..no hiccups or anything..even when I first boot up the cpu it used to take a second for things to load before I could jump into an application..now everything fires right up..and the cause was the old drivers from the Alienware site... I have Battlefied 2 running with settings maxed out and it plays perfect..Thanks again for everyones insight!!!
